When I said "I am in charge of my life", I wasn't saying I could jump off a cliff and survive...What i meant was that "Jesus, or God" has no part of our creation and existence. Don't get me wrong...It isn't that I think Jesus was make believe...I just dont think he is our "Lord and Savior..." BUT...Why do you have to believe that there is someone else to obey other than yourself? Do you believe in being good? Do you believe in love for everyone? Yes??? Well...then why do you have to say that your doing it for God and not yourself? Why do you have to look for someone elses acceptance when it is only you. There isnt anybody judging everything we do, "up in heaven". The only person that is judging your actions is you! You are the one you answer to when you die. That voice in your head that you hear all the time telling you what is right or wrong, is you. Are you really that scared of yourself???

some folks simply can not be responsible for themselves, for their actions and reactions so they place the burden of their lives on some invisible entity ... a god or a devil. even when they do something nice they have to filter it through their god. somehow it makes their good action more significant if it's done in their deity's name instead of just out of simple kindness.

and ya know what? it irks me when i do something nice for someone (like stop and help with a stalled car) and they praise Jesus. it ain't Jesus standing in the rain with the jumper cables. it's me.

You can say that Jesus and God have no part in your creation and existence, but that doesn't make it so.

Did you create yourself? Can you make a tree, perhaps?

I don't HAVE to obey anyone other than myself. It just behooves me to obey the one who is all good, all the time, and who has all power. If I obeyed myself all the time--which is called self-will--I would never grow or change. I would just do the same old crap, make the same old mistakes, and just be "content" that I was in charge.

I believe that being good is a good thing--but I am also 100% certain that I cannot be good 100% of the time. Jesus offers salvation to those who cannot be good 100% of the time but who believe that goodness is worthwhile. That is, what I can't cover--since I am prone to sin--Jesus covers for me. Can you be good 100% of the time? If so, my hat is off to you. You will be the first among billions who is not God to achieve this feat.

Do I believe that love is good? Why yes, I do. Am I loving 100% of the time? Why no, I am not. Jesus offers salvation to people who are not 100% loving 100% of the time. Do you fall into this category, or are you the only person who wasn't God to achieve this remarkable feat? If you are, again, I tip my hat to you.

I don't look to Jesus for acceptance. I look to Jesus for mercy on my soul, and for the strength to change things within me that I do not have the power or ability to change myself. (For this, I refer back to my "I can't be good or loving 100% of the time no matter how much I would like to be" argument.)

There actually is a judge, and you will have to give your accounting before him as we all will. I wish you the best when you undergo this judgment of the only one who is all good, all the time.

If I were the only one judging my actions, I would fall into justifying my actions--which are utterly different things. Have you ever self-justified as good something that actually was bad, and you knew it? If so, congrats--you are acquainted with your conscience, which does not come from you but from God. A self-contained person would never question whether what he or she did was right when it was not. He or she would automatically assume that the course of action he or she took was the right one.

I am not afraid of myself. I just know who I am. You appear not to know who you are. That's cool. Perhaps one day you will catch a glimpse in the mirror that is not at all the reflection you thought you'd see. And then may God grant you the gift of his mercy, should you ask it of him.

Best to you in your self-adoration. It never worked for me.

I appreciate that you do not feel the need to answer to anyone other than yourself. Since I have studied the bible, come to know Jesus Christ and the word of God, I have found a beautiful, higher way of living than I used to live. Maybe you're always kind, loving, forgiving, compassionate, selfless and sacrificing. I wasn't. I'm not even now. But to follow Jesus is how I desire to live my life, and I am forgiven my failings and sins. I also have His strength when I am weak, His love when I am lonely, and God's promise of eternity with Him. No matter what my circumstances are, I am at peace. That was not always so.

Ah, we get back to my thesis on Atheists.

The ultimate Atheist is a hardened criminal, for they put NO ONE on a pedistal and have NO ONE above them and are subserviant to NO ONE.

They have no faith, no more code, no remorse, no guilt.

The moment you put your faith in someone or something, you become a Theist of one kind or another. You become subserviant. You admit that someone or something is more important than you are.

When you reject this concept you face being branded anti-social and are thus subject to incarceration.

Man puts you into a man made hell called a prison.

Funny how we always get back to that concept of hell!

They are...for some odd reason they think that if you don't read the bible that there is no way that you are not going to rob or kill somebody...its just another show of their ignorance

Human being, as a species are non violent....we don't harm another one of our species unless we are threatened, because ultimately we are just animals...and animals of the same species will rarely harm each other, other than to determine status, but they almost never kill unless its for food, and they do not eat other animals of the same species

and for some reason, these people think that the bible invented this...its nature....not a book....the human species has been around a lot longer than the bible...and if we are inherently bad, which the bible is suggesting, then the human race would not have survived

I agree with you. We do judge our own actions, and set the standards that we live by.
