Put half of the amount you want to eat in a plate and then eat half of that..it works.

The short answer: Eat less, exercise more.

The best way is to fill up on slow digesting, high fiber foods and avoid fast digesting foods. Not a low-carb diet, but a low-glycemic diet:
http://www.glycemicindex.com/

Avoid foods that are white (white bread and potatoes for example and obviously sugar). Check the label on bread and look for breads that have at least 4 grams of fiber per slice. (Unless you are cutting out bread completely.) Don't use white rice, it has had all the fiber polished away. Most pastas are made from white flour - again something to avoid. Beans and brown rice are a good low-glycemic protein source.

Instead of eating 3 meals or less a day, divide your daily calories by 6 instead. Eat 6 small meals evenly spaced through the day. This will keep your metabolism working faster. Those who try to lose weight by skipping meals are slowing down their metabolism and are actually programing their bodies to store fat. A constant flow of calories in small amounts lets the body know that it is not starving and that it is safe to let go of the stored body fat.

Drink more cold water between meals. The body has to heat the water up to body temperature and requires calories. Take your body weight in pounds and multiply by .55 for the number of ounces to drink. (So a person who is 100 pounds should drink 55 ounces, a 200 pound person should drink 110 ounces, etc.) This is in addition to the coffee you drink.

With 4 kids you are probably kept moving, but don't have alot of time for an actual exercise program or even walking a mile a day. That is fine, all that lifting and carrying still counts as exercise. Carrying laundry up and down the stairs is a decent workout, even though it is short in duration. Take some small breaks during the day to stretch and flex. Take the kids to the playground and walk the perimeter of the playground while they are playing.

Cut back on calorie consumption. Calories come from all beverages except for water and is considered in caloric intake. Start exercising too. Even if is is just walking (at a quick pace).

I just dropped ten pounds since we got a dog. I walk at least three times a day twice around our subdivision (which is a mile around) and have cut calories. The best thing....I still eat what I want. But I am not a junk food person. Junk food to me is tortilla chips and salsa.

Below is a website that lists oodles of products and their calories.

Burn more calories than you eat.

Cut your fat intake.

Eat three cups of fat free low cal yogurt a day (make sure it has live cultures in it) and pineapples. This helps you break down your food.

Do 30-45 min. of aerobic exercise a day (preferably before you eat in the morning). This will attack the fat. If you still have kids during the day you could dance with them, play with them, etc. This counts as aerobic exercise. Mix it up, it will keep your body guessing.

Do 30 min of weight training three times a week. This will build lean muscle which will in turn burn fat. You could lift your kids.

Keep moving all the time. Tap you feet while at the computer, tap you hands on your legs while walking. Keep moving and keep burning calories.

I lost 40 lbs in two months and have kept it off for three more months doing this. I also took my body fat % from 30% to 14% and my waist from 36 inches to 32.

You need to lower your calorie count and increse your physical activity. 1200 calories is sufficient for weight loss.

If you eat lots of food low in calories (Chicken, fruits, lots of veggies etc) you can eat more for less!

Coffee takes up a lot of calories. You might want to at least try and replace some of them for lower calorie options like green tea.

water -at least 8cups for all the coffe you need more water, sleep I know its hard to get but that helps, more veggies less chicken, absolutely no red meat. I heard peanut butter is good too. Yeah most important is the simple equation of calories in is less than the amount of calories burned.
