My cat (he's doing it right now guhhh!) fighting me for my macaroni and cheese... for some reason he likes hot food better. My question is this: How strange is it that my cat LOVES people food? Oh! He loves it... He usually has mannors, unless - like tonight - there is milk or cheese involved. He seems to like spicy food... all kinds of stuff. He hasn't ever gotten sick or anything like that (as he only gets "tastes"). But, is it abnormal? I give him a full bowl of food everyday and he eats it up everyday..slowly. He drinks A LOT of water (2-3) sm. bowls a day. Is he gonna be a fattie when he grows up? (he's 5 mo. now) Is it unhealthy, or is it like dogs? Also - real quick - I heard milk is bad for dogs, its not bad for cats is it?

Cats love foods with a strong smells, and foods(when heated) have a stronger smell, so try heating his food in the microwave for a few secs before giving i to him. try giving him some oily fish such as sardines or pilchards every now and then too, I know they smell rank but cats love them!!
Milk is bad for cats (intestinal worms) but u can buy pet milk at the supermarket which is lactose free, and its not too expensive either!

Cats are lactose intolerant so human milk will give him a bloated sore belly & the runs.

We have a cat who LOVES people food too. We would share our food with him but he ended up being one fat cat so we've spent a year with him on a strict diet. He would vomit a lot from the stuff he was eating & he would ge tthe scraps off the bench or out of the bin.

If he's 5 months old he's growing like a fiend so he should be being fed the kitten specific food you get from the vets to ensure he has the best start in life. I do give the cats treats occasionally but people food is just that - a treat hehe. Not abnormal at all :)

It sounds to me that your cat could have kidney failure. Drinking a lot and eating salty foods (spicy foods usually have a lot of salt) Don't panic because if this is typical then it's probably not but take your cat to the vet ASAP.

ps Don't feed milk (is ok if they can tolerate it many cats are lactose intolerant), chocolate, or anything with garlic, onions, or anything from the same family as an onion like leeks, shallots etc, same goes for uncooked root vegetables potatoes in particular because they're all toxic. Your vet cat give you recipes for cat treats.

Cats are picky, only eat what they like. I've seen a cat eat an Ichban noodle! Cats need to be active to maintain weight. Moderation is the key. Cow milk is hard to digest for cats and dogs. Could cause diarrhea.

Best not to feed your cat milk- it's pretty good at causing diarrhoea! He may end up overweight- just make sure that you're following feeding guidelines and that sort of thing.

As to cats liking people food...my boy demands anything and everything that I might be eating. He was abandoned as a kitten and hand-reared from the time he was about 10 days old, which I think may have something to do with it (in his case at least).

My brother was one of those kids who used to hide food he didn't like underneath the rim of his plate- the cat would wait until he'd gone, then be in there to grab whatever he could...cold vegies, falafel (tried to keep him away from that one...spicy food and pets aren't a good combination)...you name it and he eats it...

If you're concerned about how much water he's drinking, the 'normal' amount is about 50mL/kg/day in cool weather, and up to about 100mL/kg/day if it's hot.

I think your cat is really very unusual. All cats like milk, but they seldom bother with water except occasionally. The water usually get left alone. Ive seen them drink from puddles after a rain, though. Hot food is usually ignored. Theres a rumor that milk will cause diarrhea. But they seem to know how much to take.

What a silly cat!!! I used to give mine tastes of people food, but not anymore. One day my grandfather gave her McDonalds and she got really sick. She was throwing up blood and had blood in her loose stool as well. The Vet said that alot of the time people food can cause bleeding ulcers (what mine had) and she didn't recommend it.

LoL! My kitten loves potato chips and hot dogs, one night she fell into the chip bag. I don't think milk is bad for cats though. You cat reminds me of mine, she fights me for the combo bag.

Yes, of all stripes. I need to appear fairly gullible or like a well listener or anything. Just the day prior to this, a kindly watching historic girl walked as much as me and instructed me she used to be a breast melanoma survivor. As I congratulated her, she lifted her blouse to exhibit me her scars - correct within the retailer! I once more congratulated her, blessed her and he or she left.
