Is he the stepdad? Is the a surrogate parent? He obviously didn't teach values to the child because he's Jesus. What can you teach him that he doesn't already know?

So what a lot of you are saying is that God is everyones father. So God is "my" father. Would that make me the son of God?

Back then women were cared for by a family male, a father, a husband, a son. Mary was an only child, God blessed her parents when they were old and barren. When Mary's father died, she didn't have a husband to be cared by, so a suitor was choosen by single local men that were consecrated to the temple, like Mary was consecrated to the temple. Joseph was choosen to be her caretaker. Many caretakers at that time didn't have to marry the woman, thus they didn't have sexual relations with each other (or anyone else). When the angel Gabriel told Joseph and Mary that she was pregnant, they knew that they didn't have sex and Joseph was going to leave her knowing that it would be bad for her to be pregnant and not married. But the angel came back to him and explained to him who this child was. Joseph and Mary got married then. Joseph raised Jesus like a son and taught Him the "family business" as construction (some say carpenters, some say brick layers) and he cares for Mary and Jesus until he died. Then Jesus became Mary's caretaker and when Jesus was dying on the cross, He gave Mary to His favorite disciple, John, to care for until her death. So, we see Joseph as a 'stepfather' to Jesus, a human father figure. But both Joseph and Mary knew who Jesus was and what He was to do with His life.

values but although Jesus is God, he was also human, so yes he did learn things he didn't automaticaly know everything. Jesus studied a lot with other rabbis by reading scripture. And although Joseph is not mentioned much in the Bible with Jesus, Jesus obviously spent a lot of time with his father because he became a carpenter just like his father and he learned to be a carpenter with his father.

Now to your question if God is your father:

In order for God to be your father and for you to be his son, you have to accept the gift of grace of Jesus' death on the cross, believing that Jesus rose again three days after hi death.

You also must recognize that you are a sinner and also repent from your sins and give your life over to Jesus and begin a relationship with God

Joseph was Jesus's earthly father. He did have to teach him but God put him in a family of saintly persons so he could immediately reawaken. Everything is learned by association and hearing. God is every ones father. Why is one person put into a poor family and one into a rich or why is one borne deaf and another healthy? It is because of Karma Then you have to understand reincarnation. If one does not understand these simple points then they can not understand an all loving, merciful God. Go to www.essene.org The christian Essenes have the whole scoop on the truth of Jesus. Joseph was Jesus' legal adoptive father. another answerer made a good point about him being in the line of King David. This was a promise and a covenant made to David by God that the Messiah would would come from his line of descent. If u check out the genealogical records at the beginnings of Luke and Matthew, u will find it interesting to note that Joseph's father in law, mary's father, was of the line of Nathan , one of David's sons. Joseph came from King Solomon, David's heir. So Jesus was of David's blood from both parents, both legally and naturally.

Joseph was Mary's husband, but not Jesus' birth father. Jesus was taught His heavenly duty from His Father in Heaven. But, a small child is guided by His earthly parents. Joseph was in the lineage of King David.

Joseph was the earthly father, not the biological father of Jesus. I'm sure He was a loving parent, just as Mary was a loving mother. Interesting though...the bible doesn't tell us much about Jesus' childhood.

Joseph was certainly his earthly father - Joseph rasied him and taught him to be a carpenter.

no doubt Joseph learned more from his sn than Joseph taught Jesus, but Jesus didnt just pop out of the womb talking and raising the dead. He was a baby and a kid and required the same nurturing any kid does.

Jesus' human dad. He cared for him till he was old enough to be on his own. He took Mary and Jesus safely out of reach of the king who ordered the death of all baby boys because he feared Jesus. God directed Joseph through dreams when danger was near.

joseph was Jesus' father on earth, God is everyone's heavenly father, including Jesus. Joseph taught his carpentry skills and other things to Jesus, although yes if you look at it on a large scale, his son was Jesus! but i think that joseph taught him some valuable things the 33 years Jesus was on earth.
