Well, I'm not Christian, but I'll still tell you why I don't believe in hell....
Simple really. I could never condemn ANYbody to ETERNAL torture for a mere lifetime of sin.
Therefore, either there is NO hell..... or I am more forgiving than God. I choose to believe there is no hell, but if you prefer to believe I am more forgiving than God, that is your choice =)

God is love. That's pretty much it. I think that when we read the Bible we need to be careful not to take it so literally. We need to remember that it is a collection of teachings, lore, law, and spiritality and that it was written by people. They may have been inspired by God and God's love and even convey Divine wisdom/will, but their writings are essentially a cultural construction and as such not to be taken literally.
All this Devil/Hell stuff becomes suspiciously popular from the dark ages to around the time of the Refamation(spelling?), crusades, Inquisition etc...
Fear is a great way to control people. So is ignorance.
For the record I am a Christian (Anglican); I believe in a God of love but I don't believe in "Hell" as some place where The "Devil" hangs out.

No true born again child of God would ever believe there is not a hell.
We are saved and born again and transformed into the marvelious
Kingdom, of his dear son , Jesus the Christ.
Tranfered out of darkness into his glorious Light. We walk as children of light.
There is no darkness in him or shadow of turning.
It's either light or darkness, Jesus or satan, heaven or hell.
What would we be saved from if there was no hell?
We are saved from sin and hell and the devil has no power over us.
And the light he cannot see because the darkness that is is him has blinded his eyes.

I don't think you can be a Christian and not believe in Hell......That would be saying a part of the Bible isn't real, and if someone thought that I would definetly question their beliefs in the Lord. Since He gave men the words to write. Jesus isn't a liar.
Heaven is real, and so is Hell
That would be the devils greatest aspiration....to have us believing him and his prison wasn't real....if it wasn't real then in essense we would be saying the Lord and heaven wasn't real....oh what a party he would have...
It is just not so. Hell does exist

I believe there is because the bible says there is. If you believe the Bible, you can't just pick and choose a part to not believe. That is the dangerous game of creating your own false religion. It is true from cover to cover. We sometimes forget it is the WORD OF GOD. Dare we think we should change or leave out something because it is uncomfortable or unpleasant?

Absoloutely. The word's commonly translated "hell" (sheol, gehena, or hades) in the bible refer to the common grave of mankind. Most people who belive in hell as a firey place of torment need to do some research.
What kind of loving God would eternaly burn somone? It doesn't make any sense.
