The ceasing of one's menstral period after a year. The lead up or perimenopause can last anywhere from 7-13 years. You get hot flashes, night sweats, crankiness, vaginal itchiness as well as vaginal dryness. Some women's pms is even worse during perimenopause. People who are post menopausal are suspetible to osteoporosis.

There is hormon replacement therapy available to alleviate some of the symptoms but it's an individaul case by case discussion with your family doctor.

Menopause is an event that happens to women once there bodies have decided not to bleed any more. Women bleed every month so that one day they can have babies and when Menopause hits about 50 years of age, its when all the bleeding goes away for ever. Most women going through menopause are very moody and may cry alot - they arent sure what is happening but the outcome couldnt be better! No more periods!!!! Hope this helps!

Menopause is when you stop menstruating and you can no longer have children. You can start in your late 30's into your 50's. You get hot flashes, cry for no reason, get depressed, things like that. You need to see a gynecologist who may want to put you on hormone meds. I didn't want any because they can cause side effects and I am doing fine. All those symptoms come and go...It is a natural thing for women to go through....

Without repeating what the previous people have said, I'll also add that some women experience early onset menopause which is a concern for those who may have wanted more children. Once a woman is no longer menstruating (having her period), she is unable to get pregnant. Hope this helps!

What are the possible symptoms and problems of the menopause?

The menopause is a natural event. You may have no problems. However, it is common to develop one or more symptoms which are due to the low levels of oestrogen.

Short-term symptoms

Hot flushes occur in about 3 in 4 women. A typical hot flush lasts a few minutes and causes flushing of your face, neck, and chest. You may also sweat (perspire) during a flush. Some women become weak, faint, or feel sick during a hot flush. The number of hot flushes can vary from the occasional flush, to fifteen or more times a day. Hot flushes tend to start just before the menopause, and typically persist for 2-3 years.
Sweats commonly occur when you are in bed at night. In some cases they are so severe that sleep is disturbed and you need to change bedding and nightclothes.
Other symptoms may develop such as headaches, tiredness, palpitations, being irritable, difficulty sleeping, depression, anxiety, aches and pains, loss of libido (sex drive), and feelings of not coping as well as before. It can be difficult to say whether these symptoms are due to the hormonal changes of the menopause. For example, you may not sleep well or you may become irritable because you have frequent hot flushes, and not directly because of a low oestrogen level. Also, there may be other reasons why these other symptoms develop. For example, depression is common in women in their middle years, for various reasons.

Menopause is the end of a woman's menstral cycle. She is not longer able to have kids after this (usually in late 40's to early 50's). The clap is a STD.
