I am a waiter in NYC. I have many years of experience and myself and my co-worker have made a peculiar observation...Indians don't like ice in their water. When a party of Indians comes in, we automatically start pouring the waters with NO ICE. Please don't start telling me this is a "stereotype" or anything of that sort because it is simply true. Indians order vegetarian items and drink water with no ice. I understand not eating animal products...but what is their gripe with ice??

Don't trust the ice??? Any moron would know that 1) Ice is water and 2) The ice that would go in their water would be made from the same water they're drinking...with no ice.

I think it comes from their culture and how they were raised: Ice maybe contaminated, they might not trust ice from restaurants.

They might not like ice in their drinks: not everybody does. And the indians that you wait on isnt the representation for all Indians

I dont think your trying to state a sterotype, but you stated you question as a form of a sterotype: sorry.

You should just state that, the many years you've been a waiter you noticed your Indian customer to etc..

Its a stereotype when the statement is generalizedwhen your say a culture as a whole is one thing, or does one thing. Just state your expereince and dont generalized it as being true for all.

I don't know about that but I am taking a guess. For example in Mexico, they don't have supermarkets like we do and they buy their groceries daily. Many people don't have modern appliances so who would even consider having ice trays if they don't even have a refrigerator. Some refirgerators are small and only have space for a few things. Ice is like a luxury to some people around the world.Think about it....
