My daughter is autistic. She is going through adolescent hormone changes. She is on Prozac, Respirdol, and Depakote. She continues to have violent outbursts. It happens at home and in public. I try to do things to make her happy-doesn't work. She is nonverbal and can't tell me what is wrong. Any ideas?

Are there an autism counsellors or support groups in your area? I recommend that you find one...you need to be around people who have been in your situation and understand what you are going through.

A professional could def point you in the right direction, but even other parents would be a great start. Giving your child pills or appeasing her is not going to be enough to help her mature and get through her troubles.

Good luck. I'm sure there are support systems in place for you. Maybe try talking to your daughters doctor about alternatives.

I saw a show on pet miracles on dishnetwork. A boy had the same problem. He was autistic. Then his mother took him to an aunt's house who had horses. He liked the horses so much, he began to take care of them, then ride them and now he is so much better. I don't know how old your daughter is but maybe she needs a distracion. Not a dog or cat that she could harm but maybe a place like a zoo who has a handler that could watch her and she could feed the animals or something like that...good luck...

Maybe it's the medication. Being on that stuff is hell. I can't imagine what it would be like being on it and not being able to tell someone about the hellish side effects. It's hard enough when doctors and know it alls think that shite is good for you and don't listen when you say it's not.

The mentally ill from social maladjustment's are not non-verbal. Perhaps your question belongs in another section on births.
