it seems to me that they would be better off pulling out a concealed weapon and shooting 10 or 20 people dead rather than the pathetic average of 2 or none. it seems to me that the prime motivation is to die and as long as some percieved enemy is killed in the process and it can be argued to god that this was death in battle.

for such a potentially devastating counter occupation tactict, why are they so useless at it?

it is true that their own death is the motive. but you make a good point about arguing the case to almighty god. this practice assumes that he is as cynical as they are.

Most suicide bombers are vulnerable and subjected to brainwashing over a long period of time.

Some have lost a loved one as part of the conflict and are targeted by terrorist groups and told they can get revenge, become a martyr, be a hero etc. They're approached when they're vulnerable.

Some bombers are poor, have no future and agree to become a martyr, knowing that they become a hero and that their family will benefit. Their wife / kids / parents fall into the protection of the militants and receive a stack of money that's collected in honour of their lost relative.

Sadly, several groups have used young men that are mentally retarded - seriously. The poor guys won't have a clue what they're doing and just think that following instructions earns them praise. They'll spend a month following instructions (walk into that bar, sit down, walk back. Or get on that bus for one stop, then go back to base.)

At some point, they'll get a routine trip. But there will be a new belt to wear under their clothes and a button to press when the bus moves. Easy.

In Iraq, there have been a number of cars packed with explosives, with just the driver inside. These are all ranked as suicide and usually detonated at a road check-point or near a Police station.

However, some appear to have remote trigger devices and might not have been suicide, but an innocent guy with a bomb in his boot. Worse still, there are many cases of suicide car bombs, but the driver is chained in the car & rolled into a crowd.

Suicide bombers are almost always brainwashed or manipulated when vulnerable. If they really were given a place in heaven with loads of virgins, then why don't the militia leaders go for it themselves?

Because they aren't stupid enough. They just want cheap, effective weapons that scare people.

What do young men dream of when they're just a 'nobody'? Being a famous hero and getting all the chicks. Interested?

Well guess what? The terrorist leaders can get you 72 hot chicks (virgins too) & also make you a legend and hero on earth forever. Plus, they'll have a word with God & get you a fast-track into Heaven.

All you have to do is murder as many innocent people as possible.

Let's face it - the bombers that buy into this cr*p are almost under hypnosis and the people that recruit suicide bombers are cowards and evil sick screw-ups.

From the promises made to them it would appear so. It turns out to be a selfishly motivated act - hardly qualifies for reward.

The promise of 70 virgins or the like appeals to lustful immorality and the baser, bestial nature. Of course if they did it here on earth they would be utterly condemned by Islam which wants some women to vail their modesty. Durr ! Do they know what they believe?

I suppose I am being flippant but I can't help wondering how they can enjoy these vigins with their bodies all blasted to bits by their suicide bomb !

They now know the truth.

Poor fools.

"Allah be Praised" gee man it is a SIN in Islam to commit suicide just as it is a sin to kill innocent people. Islam is portrayed as a religion of peace yet Ayatollahs, Imams and others continually brainwash followers into believing that they will go to a better place (Paradise) and be guaranteed entry if they become a suicide bomber and gain martyrdom.

Families of these people believe that they are martyrs and in many cases gain status within their communities because a son or daughter has been stupid enough to blow themselves up and end up in HELL for committing the sin of suicide.

As long as this false belief is taught there will always be someone willing to commit suicide by blowing themselves up.

They don't care about killing others, since that's all part of it. They're very concerned about killing themselves for their "cause" since they believe that they will be rewarded for their "martyrdom" by receiving 72 virgins in heaven. The Qu'ran seems to have been mistranslated in this regard and the word taken to mean "virgins" actually means "raisins". Boy, will those dudes ever be suprised when Allah hands them a box of raisins.

Sadly their primitive thinking dictates killing yourself and others in the name of an invisible man in the sky entitles you to 72 virgins and 10,000 servants in the afterlife.

As for me I'd rather say to hell with this superstitious stoneage bullcrap and go boink the 72 virgins in the here and now.

and Sooooo many of them are going to be disappointed to find out that the Virgins in Heaven are still going to be Virgins LONG after the bomber gets there!

trust me that happens too.

their are several cases of terrorists in Israel pulling out a gun and start shooting in a crowed market until they are killed.

but yes they have a desire to die because they have been taught that death is better than life.

i always thought that it was the idea that martyrdom is the ultimate way to express your devotion to your chosen diety. taking people out would just be an added perk. i'm not sure that it matters how many go with them. it's the self sacrifice that's important to someone who would commit that kind of act.

some believe that if they die, they will be a martyr. also, sometimes when women get pregnant out of wedlock, religious authorities will choose them to become suicide bombers, telling them that if they do it they can atone for their crime and restore honour to their families.
