Don't forget to go to Zurich, the intellectual and cultural center of Switzerland. Great shopping. Look for the world's best chocolates and Swiss handcrafts and the famous Swiss watches and cheese. Even the airport has a large international flavor shopping center! The city is the largest in Switzerland and is located on beautiful Lake Zurich. There are some lovely lake boat trips available. There is a zoo, lake promenade, and the Kunsthaus art museum. Some people even like to see the red light district because like everything else in Switzerland it is so clean. Lots of historical sights.

Luzern and Basel are also interesting cities.

You will want to go to Chillon Castle on beautiful Lake Geneva. It was built in the 1300s and is the site of Byron's poem, "The Prisoner of Chillon." The castle was used as a prison in the 16th century.

Bern, the capital of Switzerland, is also a delightful city. If you are going in November, be sure to go to the Onion Market celebration, held on November 27. Unfortunately, you are too late for the goat parade (I kid you not! - there is such a thing) which is being held this year on October 26. The Old Town of Bern is really historical and picturesque. Go see the bear pits; the bear is the symbol of Bern.

If you don't want to take an independent trip, you can always take a tour. They are usually interesting and well worth the money. Here is where you will find descriptions of some tours:

I am 78 and have physical problems that keep me from traveling but I have been to many countries in the past and the places I would most like to revisit are the U.K., Vienna, and Switzerland..

There are interesting tourist sites such as churches and historic buildings in Basel, Zurich, or Geneva. The Swiss National Museum in Zurich is definitely worth a visit. There are ski areas such as St. Moritz and Arosa. There is a historic Abbey in St. Gallen that has some of the oldest books in the world on display. The fountains and bear pits in Berne are very popular with tourists, as is the animated clock on the town hall.

In Lucerne there is at least one ancient covered bridge (I believe the second burned but may have been restored by now) with paintings all along the interior walls. Boat trips on Lake Lucerne are worth looking into. In the tiny village of Stein-am-Rhein there are many houses fully painted with elaborate works of art. The Rhine Falls are not far away - the most powerful waterfalls in Europe.
