This is quite common for people who come to a new culture. It's called "culture shock", and you are right, it's a mild form of depression. Many people get over it after a period of time, but if you are still having trouble after a few weeks, you might consider seeing a mental health counselor.

See a counsellor if you feel your symptoms are severe. It's culture shock for sure. I moved from Canada to China now that's culture shock inducing. Sometimes it helps to rant to friends and family from home.

You just feel homesick. Don't worry about "customs," you'll learn them as you go. Hell, I live in NJ, and feel culture shock when I go to Connecticut.

Ask your new friends to explain our culture to you. Read books and rent videos.
