You should be very proud that you're trying to do such an honorable thing with a precious item. Here are a few sites that I've seen recently that look good:
http://www.makingmemories.org/brides_against_breast_cancer.html
Raising money for breast cancer, unsure if they sell to survivors only or not, but a good cause either way.
http://bridalgarden.org/AboutUs1.html
Another site that'll sell your dress and use the money for good causes, this one for NYC children.
http://heavenlyangelsinneed.com/WeddingGowns.html
This is a children's charity group, they take the gowns and create burial clothing for babies. Not everyone would be comfortable with their wedding gown being taken apart, but they're typically very good fabric and embellishments for this sort of thing, and again it's a very good cause. In fact, it's more of a direct donation than "donate so we can sell it and use the money," some deserving family will actually use the gown itself.
Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Try freecycle.org There hopefully is a chapter in your area. I have given so many things away through this and it is so rewarding to have someone come and pick it up who is so appreciative. You post the item and receive e-mail request and then you get to pick who you want the dress to go. This is a nice bonus since you will see who gets it and know it goes to a nice home. I know it's sometimes hard to just drop of a donation like this to the salvation army or some other like place when it is so close to your heart.

A lot of charities run thrift stores. You give the dress to the store. Then the store sells it to someone who needs it at a deep discount. A lot of these thrift stores, run by Church's, are not "open to the public," they have clients who are in financial despair, they are the only ones allowed to buy anything. Then whatever money the person does pay, goes to support the charity too.

Yes, My best friend is in need of a plus size dress. She has no family and is trying take care of all of the arrangements on her own. It has been a mess.... She has no money, but she's trying to make a good empression on her parent in-laws to-be. So she just keeps telling them "that's taken care of". HELP

SO SO sorry to hear of your profound loss. My heartfelt condolances to you....
Here is a link where you can donate your gown to benefit cancer. My mother is a cancer survivor and has worked with organizations such as this, but not this one in particular.
Just food for thought and God Bless.....

in case you do not truly want the money, donate it to the I Do starting off position. they are an extremely properly-well-known charity that takes wedding ceremony dresses and sells them. 20% off the proceeds flow to the charity of your determination, and something is going to the I Do starting off position's fund, it is used to promote charitable giving at weddings.

what a lovely unselfish person you must be to give up something that must mean a great deal to you.
my first suggestion would be to put it on the ebay auction website advertised as free as this website is viewed daily by millions of people its actually where i brought my dream dress for a heck of a lot less than it was in the shops i an tell you.
or you could give it to your local charity shop who would sell it on.
or maybe you could explain that you would like to give it to someone rather than be sold and ask them to put up an advert in the window of their shop or any shop for that matter.
hope this helps.
i admire you greatly for trying to do such a self less act wish more people in this world were like you.

I know what it is like to lose someone so very close. I'm sorry.
I don't know how important it is to you to keep your wedding dress in tact, but 'heavenly agels in need' use wedding dresses to make bural gowns for parents who need an outfit in which to bury their baby.
