I bought a 2000 Ford Contour earlier this year, and I am reading more and more that it's a bad car. Unfortunatly I am on a loan, and have 5 years left of payments, and I needed a co-signer at the time (I no longer have an available co-signer). What steps do I take to switch it all to a different car (something that equals my current payments at $144/month)? Is it possible in my situation?

Sami, next time you want to buy a car look in the magazine: consumer reports. I did that and bought a car that was recommended and I never had any problems with the car. It is 11 yrs. old and still has all original parts.
You might want to take it to a dealer and see how much they will give you for the car and just trade it in. You might be upside down which means that the dealer will give you less than what is owed. You could just try to sell it to someone. I just bought my son a 2000 Ford contour SVT for his first car. I think you will be ok and at $144.00 per month is a good deal.
Just take care of the car, change the oil and all the maintenance stuff and you should be ok.

You really don't have much of a choice, you're stuck with it. If you trade-it in, you won't even get 40% of your payoff amount.

The only choice you really have is to pay it off as early as possible. At least that way you'll save some money on finance charges. Pay twice a month instead of just one.

Yes, it's a horrible car which is why resale value is awful.
