My kids were the ones that told me about Yahoo Answers!
My kids are 15 & 12. I can check the history and see what kind of questions they're looking at. I can go to their name and see what kind of answers they give. It gives me alot of insight into what they're thinking, etc. I can also see the kinds of things they're interested in.
We don't have AIM anymore....the girls were so mean and that was a dangerous one because you didn't know who was on the other end. We've never had myspace and they've heard about enough creeps on there....at least it doesn't show up in the history or my guardian software. They also don't do chat rooms. Another thing that helps make it safe is that we have both computers in one room. There is still talking and socialization among us and it's a good deterent to not go anywhere unsafe, etc.
My daughter has given advice to girls that are worried about being fat or what they wear, etc. The answers my daughter gives are so encouraging to other people and it also has shown me that she has a healthy self image. It helps me see where my son is at too. If I see something inappropriate in their answers or where they've been, I can see it's a good thing to "talk about" when we go for walks. I talk to my teens alot about topics like politics, science religion, etc. I think if you keep it monitored and act accordingly. Now, if your kids spend all their time in the "Singles & Dating" area or whatever, it might mean that they're lonely and you can give them more of you time.
As far as web interaction, I think it's one of the safest & easiest to monitor.

Well my kids are only 2 and 1. But if they were old enough I wouldn't let them on here without my supervision. Too many adult questions. Some serious, some not, but all the same adult content not suitable for my children.
If they needed it for school I would ask and read them the answers, or even a general q, it would work the same way.
Some ppl are just nasty on here and it is uncalled for!

maximum mum and dad don't be attentive to their toddlers are asking, or they don't be attentive to themselves the solutions to the matters. I agree, some examples, or motives on a thank you to reach at solutions is optimal, regardless of if the completed typing out of infinite equations, questions is stressful. this is those that are *keen* to get 10 digital factors which will feed them the solutions. yet interior the long-term, the scholars are in simple terms cheating themselves. i'm particular instructors are conscious that some pupils are transforming into outdoors help, whilst their homework is ideal, yet come try time, no get entry to to computers, they unexpectedly, will no longer be able to describe their artwork, nor have the nicely suited solutions.

No, my 12 yr old doesn't even like to get online, but if he came here and asked for an answer for homework, then he really wouldn't learn anything.

I wouldn't. Kids are impressionable and would be likely to believe anything people say here. I wouldn't want to risk my kid getting seriously inaccurate information about some of these topics, particularly sex, relationships, etc. Kids are curious and trusting, and you don't want them led into believing some of the misinformation here.
