I'm new on the net, so it has not bothered me yet. But I do understand the bigger part of the question. I'm not sure how old or young you are, but I'm 44. And I'll bet that 100% of people 40 or older ( it could be 30 or 35 and older ) feel that the level of communication in our country has declined since our childhoods and young adult years. Inter-personal communications are terrible now. Whether it be on the phone, in person, or on the net. And I'll bet that nearly 100% of people 40 or older, attribute this decline to the internet. And I'll bet ANYTHING that they are right. We were taught that the spoken word can be more casual in appropriate circumstances. And the written word was to be formal, adhering to stricter guidelines and structure. Right or wrong, agree or disagree, that is the way that it was....I don't expect perfection, nor am I capable of perfection. But a great deal of the writing reveals the age and experience of the user. There are plenty of exceptions, young people who are good at writing skills and older people who are terrible. But there's no denying the obvious. So please continue to be articulate. It is appreciated by many. And you said, everybody must leave this question with a smile. Soooo here goes.. . . . . . .. . .

.. . . . . .From Now on...All Real Men Will Articulate..Man Law?....Yes. . Man Law #9 .. . . .. . . . ..SMILE .. . . . . . . . ..

Not ALL people who answer/ask questions or talk in cyberspace are using a keyboard that is easy to type full words upon.. some of them are using things like cell phones where each letter is a real pain to type.. besides, maybe they are handicapped in some way...

get over it... the idea here is to communicate... and you KNOW what LOL means!!.. if not.. it means Laughing Out Loud.

Like it or not, the internet is an environment, and environments shape the cultures expressed within them. The internet is heavily text biased, and this removes the ability to read body language. Short modifiers have become grammatically correct within the internet culture because they replace this lacking mode of communication. For example:

You looked good in that sweater. *LOL*

is far different from

You looked good in that sweater. :)

A person would understand that the first probably meant playful sarcasm, while the second was genuine.

There are many age groups on this site .
Sometimes we have to keep the content simple so the kiddies understand what we are talking about.
Why would anyone give this question a thumbs down ?

lol is pretty common, but I am getting sick of people who ask and answer questions with y's and u r's--does "why" and "you're" take too much effort to type out? How about capitalizing an I here or there?--don't get me wrong, typos are one thing, but webspeak is annoying

OK here's what I think
You should have put this question in another category because it has nothing to do with religion or spirituality.

But other then that I think people should write out what they want to say instead of all these abbreviations like lol, brb or u2.

I hate all this cyberspace shorthand too. I think it is an aberration to be articulate around here.

I agree. I type out full words on the cell too so I know it isn't that hard. Puncuation seems to be a problem with the techies too. ;)
