If you are like me this is a life long challenge. I have a quick temper and take a relatively long time to relax after getting upset.
For me it is a chemical imbalance, but you do not have to get that deep to understand a few things.
1) Try to take a minute, breathing deep helps in 2 ways:
a) You may start to calm down
b) You will not say anything too angry while you are just
breathing and not talking.
2) Our reaction(s) to others are our own property. Yes some
people intentionally or unintentionally "push our buttons".
However, loosing control only broadcasts anger.
Try to take control of your reactions, calm down, and consider
why this particular thing is getting the best of you.
The conclusion(s) may be quite different than the typical
reaction I have which is to believe someone else is
intentionally trying to tick me off.
3) Over time, try to understand the set of expectations that lead to
anger. I find most of the time, I am just letting little things make
me furious. It is rarely the facts of an issue that are the
biggest problem, and my reaction(s) usually make things more
complicated.

Hi,

Looks like you have been affected by your expression of
short temper. Probably it has created misunderstanding, hatred, friction in rlationship. Good that you have realized
that expression of short temper doesn't help.

But, you trying to control/suppress it wont help it either.
It will create more stress for you if you are unable to
express your feelings. So, whatever you do to suppress
will accumulate your feelings inside and oneday it will
burst with more vigour and damage.

To me, the balanced approach would be to transform
whatever short temper feelings you have now by expressing in a passive way. In the sense, instead of directly expressing it to people emotionally, express it
alone in a room to any objects, pillows, pictures etc..
Then, once your emotions are out, you can think
about the whole scnario again and try to understand it better.

Still, if you feel other person is at fault, you can talk to them directly without emotional outburst.

try out and all the best !

Have you ever wanted to tear something up just because your real mad? Can you stop yourself from punching a whole in the wall? Sometimes you just can't hold your anger inside yourself and you just have to take it out on something soon after though you get in trouble for it.
Steps

1. Try Meditating everyday to calm your nerves and you won't get so angry as often. Meditating calms the mind and helps you with your problems. You may be able to think more clearly too. Sometimes meditating can make you emotionless for the rest of the day. It removes a lot of stress and gives you a better outlook on the world.
2. Clinch up your hand, but not in a shape of a fist. Try bending your fingers instead of your whole hand to release anger. If you put your hand into a fist then you'll set yourself to hurt someone by punching them. That may get yourself in trouble. Some people get so mad that they sue.
3. Take a deep breath. It always calms nerves down. It is just a small meditation that realease a little stress at a time. It doesn't have as much effect as real meditation does.
4. Start going to anger management class during the day. They can help you more than a therapist can.
5. See a therapist if it is not that serious, even though a therapist doesn't help as much. You don't want to make a mistake of punching him/her out, do you?
6. Get a stress ball to make it more fun! You can squeeze them a lot and pop all that stuff inside of it. It is just a creative way to do step 2.
7. Take some anger management if your anger just happens to be real serious, unless you want to deal with your problems for the rest of your life.

Tips

* Think about something you like or do something you enjoy. Example: listen to music. Even "brutal" music helps if you like the genre.
* Avoid anything that makes you mad (I.E. don't talk to anyone that occasionally makes you mad). If you feel that anger starting to take control, just drop the subject whether it is a game or a fight. Do some of the steps above to release the anger it helps. Instead of yelling at everyone, try a witty comment instead. If none of these work seek psychological help. These steps are guaranteed to stop all that anger.
* Psychologist can be your best friends!

Warnings

* If your anger is real serious don't see a therapist because it may sometimes end badly. Trust me I know
* This article will only stop anger for that one moment but not the rest of your life.

when someone is on the way to pissing you off, just say "excuse me" and walk out of there, rub your face twice, then come back and answer the question with a smile. this will give you enuff time to calm down a bit and react in a more positive way.

You should repeat the following saying...

"The person you are angry with, either doesn't know it, or doesn't care that you are angry. So you are only hurting your self. Just take a walk or meditate a while. Think of a happy place in life.
