It depends how you approach it. If you want to take the healthy route (reccomended), then you should expect to lose no more than two pounds per week. Plus, even if your weight goes up a bit when you start working out - don't panic - that is just the weight of muscles getting stronger, and has nothing to do with actual fat weight (a muscle is heavier than fat). In terms of losing 50 pounds...I once lost about 40, and what worked for me is good ole fashioned diet and exercise. There are many fad diets and unhealthy ways to lose weight out there, but if you want a lasting result, an hour of cardio at least 4 times a week plus about 20 minutes of weight training to tone up loose skin so that it doesn't hang once you lose weight. Also muscles burn calories even when you're not working out, so doing weight training is very benificial. If you can, avoid all sweet drinks - sodas are a big no-no if you want to lose weight - one cup of soda like pepsi or coke contains a heaping table spoon of sugar. Your daily carb intake should be no more than half of your total daily calories consumed. Try to avoid refined sugar and carbs, stick to whole grain bread instead of white bread, replace regular pasta with whole grain pasta, etc. You could lose 50 pounds anywhere from 6-8 months if you're consistent with your diet and exercise regime. One of those eliptical bikes are very effective - an hour on them burns close to 400 calories. In order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. Read the nutrition labels on all foods you eat, avoid junk food - but that's a given. Also, get at least 8 hours of sleep. Whenever you burn any calories and do weight training, the only time your body actually starts making changes from a workout is during sleep, so the more sleep you get while maintaining a regular exercise program, the more weight you will shed - however, a person generally doesn't need more than 9 hours. Find a fun workout that you will actually stick to because it's easy to say that you're ready to make a change and work out regularly, but after a few times you may get bored and lose willpower to continue working out, so you have to find a workout that's enjoyable for you so that you don't lose interest. It could be anything from dancing, to jogging, to playing tennis or swimming. It doesn't really matter what you do as long as you're burning calories, so find any way you can to be active at the very least 30 mins each day, but an hour 4 times a week minimum is needed to actually see weight loss results. Remember, as long as you're moving, you're burning calories, so try to incorporate as much physical activity into your day as you can. There is a lot of information online you can read up on in regards to nutrition, dieting, exercising, etc... Good luck to you in reaching your goal by healthy means!

My current goal is 51 pounds in 2 months ... I have tried all kinds of things but I finally discovered something that really and truly has worked for me ... I recently implemented a anti-oxidant juice, a healthy energy drink, and a simple and great weight loss plan into my life that has been extremely successful and has improved my health 100 times over. I have lost 2" in my waist line and I have also lost 20 pounds and all of this has been in only the last 26 days ... I will continue to do this until I reach my weight goal (I figured 2 months to lose 51 pounds) ... I did not diet, eat special foods, skip meals, or even exercise. I continued to eat "normal foods" ... Pastor James ~ Tx

There are 14 lbs in one stone. Right? Now, it takes about one month to loose one stone. On a diet of 1000, to 1,500 calories, you can lose one stone if you don't cheat, in one month approx. Now, if you exercise too; it will eat the fat out of the body, leaving you with healthy muscle. In 5 - 6 months of rigidly sticking to your goal; you should be right where you want to be. This is the best method as fast fad dieting doesn't get you there for keeps. And you go backwards sometimes.
Give this way a shot; and ensure you take daily a good B complex of at least 50 mgs of each of the B group vitamins, and a good multi mineral too. Drink water every day; what ever you can tolerate!
Good luck with your efforts!

I personally lost over a 100lbs in a little over a year. But you have to remember everybody is different. Exercising regularly is a must. As for the food, the key for me was eating a well balanced low fat diet. Learning to read food labels will help you out alot too. Drink less soda and more water and keep a food journal. Keeping track of what your eating is a great way to see what you might need to cut back in your diet. I hope this helps you out. Good Luck

If you do it safely (that is, 4 to 5 pounds a week) it should take 10 to 13 weeks to lose 50 lbs.

1) Eat less.
2) Excercise more.
3) Repeat.

Go to Iraq... I was deployed there and pretty much had nothing but San Benedetto Tea (Peach... bottled 1 liters) and Tillamook Jerky Nuggets the whole 12 months there. (Occassionally I'd splurge and get pickled Herring and/or canned Sardines... MMM raw seafood in a can.)

Also... do lots of sit-ups... I love sit-ups and crunches... my last PT test there I did 76 sit-ups (in the 2 minutes alotted time to do them).
