I think our different emotions, thoughts and desires are blessings, but some of them are considered sinful even though they bring us happiness. Why would we be given these things/options if they're not meant to been enjoyed?

They are meant to be enjoyed within certain limits. The fact that God sets certain limits on certain pleasurable things does not mean for one minute He didn't want us to enjoy them. If you think everything that feels good or tastes good or smells good IS good and should therefore be enjoyed without moderation, you are mistaken.

Think for a moment about a small child. If you gave the child a plush toy to play with, and he played for a few minutes and then decided it would be more enjoyable to dismantle it and eat the fabric and fiberfill, would you let him do it just because he thought it was fun? I hope not. The toy was given to the child to enjoy, within certain limits.

In the same way, God gives us things to enjoy and sets limits on them. Humans don't need to know God's reasons for setting the limits, so that we can agree or disagree with His reasons (and with Him) and decide whether to follow this one and not that one because we know better than God what's good for us. We need to trust that God does truly know what's best for us, even when we disagree with Him.

Hmmm... not sure I'm completely with you on this one.

God tells us in Proverbs 3, Verse 5 specifically:

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

This verse tells us not to trust our feelings, desires, etc... although we might think they are 'good'; we might be doing something for our own gains and not the gains of God.

Pleasing the Lord far surpasses any recognition that we can receive here on earth. The challenge is that sometimes we want the gratification now and not later. It's easier to gain these things from people and not wait for God's reward.

I think that the very things we take for granted are blessings. When you think about it, it is quite humbling. For example, I got up this morning, showered, ate breakfast, had a fairly productive day at the office, had lunch, drove home, had dinner and am now on my computer while my husband watches TV upstairs - very typical day. All of these things are blessings provided to me from the Lord. Many people don't have some or all of these things - blessings, if you will.

Some can not mentally or physically get out of bed; in fact, some don't have a bed or home even. Some can not shower when they want; eat when they want and what they want; etc, etc....

The bottom line, in my opinion, is that we thank the Lord first and give back to Him first for the enjoyment that He makes available to us. He gives us all gifts, but it depends on how we use them.

Do you recall that when God made man, he also made a helper for Adam so he would not be alone. And when they sinned, they hid from God. So God was walking in the garden and Adam and Eve hid from Him (Genesis 3:8). God had fellowship with Adam and Eve -- communication.

Yes, they are blessings, but sin starts with the thought that we put into motion or act on. The Bible provides instruction regarding this and we can always call out to God to help us when we have difficulty overcoming a thought.

Take a look at James 1:13-18

13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Praise Him!!

Why does this only apply to believers? Non-believers find joy in the same things that we do, even though we know it's wrong while they don't. The reason we get happiness is because that's what satan uses to entice us into having those thoughts more often. What we don't seem to realise is that the happiness is short-lived and there is even more guilt that comes with it. The happiness that comes from God is eternal.

Some of the most gorgeous of flowers, breathtaking in color and symmetry produce the deadliest of poisons. Emotions are just different degrees of the same feeling ...balance/moderation and "The Middle Way" as taught by the Buddha enables one to enjoy these "blessings" in a balanced and in context.

Just like personality traits that God gave us, anything taken to the extreme is not good.
I don't know what emotions you consider sinful....
One thing the Bible does say is: "Guard your heart, it's the well spring of life." This helps me so I don't fall gaga in love with anyone that sweeps me off my feet. It's a verse that can help in so many areas. Your emotions usually come from your heart. We do have to keep our emotions in check. The book of proverbs has many verses on why you want to keep emotions in check.

Because we are born sinners , we have thoughts , desires, that come from our sinful nature. We are all given free will, to either do the pleasures of sin or to except Jesus, and have the joy & happiness that comes from God. But this is the harder path to take. but in the end soooo! worth it.

You use the word BLESSINGS lightly. a blessing isnt anything to make you feel GOOD> A blessing is something from God that will draw you closer to Him and bring you joy, peace and happiness. A man may desire porn. this is not from God nor is it a blessing. Only Godly desires are blessings. Alll good comes from God and all evil comes from the devil. But sometimes the devil gives us something wrapped up so pretty and we think it is a good gift, but in reality it leads to destruction and seperation from God. Remember the story of the wolf in sheeps clothing. The devil can appear as an angel of light. Remember this in deceiding what is of God and what is not. Only what scripture reveals to us is good is good, and God will surely confirm it. God never takes good things away from us . His desire is to make us happy, not to take away from us. But I look at it like this. Instead of all the Nos you see in the Bible, see them as Yeses. Yes that we can obstain from sin and all the consequences of it that lead to ruin. Example. God says no sex outside of marriage or before marriage. why? it isnt to rob you of this beautifu l imtimacy. It is to protect you. Just think if everyone obeyed just this one thing, how much sorrow it would save. no abortions. no ruined reputations. no having a baby as the daddy runs off and leaves you. so much dispair just from not obeying that one thing. God doesnt take good from us. He wants us to have all the good blessings He has for us. Let us obey and receive them all. Ask and you shall receive. Receive no because we ask not. Find out all God has in store for you. Anything we give up for God is given back to us over and over in all the glorious blessings He will send. Nothing can compare to what God sends. including true love. we arent to enjoy any bad thing. This is why God sends the Holy Spirit to convict us and lead us away from sin. God gives us thoughts and desires. But, so does the devil. Remember that.

God teaches us right from wrong because he knew we would have these emotions. Sticking a soul in a chemically controlled environment like these bodies can led to some pretty interesting situation. God knew that we would be tempted by our own emotions and led astray by feelings that we cannot control. he merely tells us which ones he wants us to stay away from because they can cause bad things to happen to us if we follow them. Once again God looking out for us. Peace to you.
