Can two brown eyed people have a blue eyed baby?

Can two brown eyed people have a blue eyed baby? I heard somewhere that this was impossible and you would have to have a blue eye parent and a brown eyed parent or a two blued eyed parents to have a child with blue eyes...get it? True or not?

Yes, it is possible. You both have to have a recessive blue-eyed gene. If two brown-eyed people have the recessive blue-eyed trait, they can have a blue-eyed child. If one parent is blue-eyed and one parent is brown-eyed but doesn't have the recessive blue-eyed gene, child will have brown eyes. If one parent is blue-eyed and one is brown-eyed but DOES have the recessive gene, the child could possibly have blue eyes.

My husband and I both have brown eyes & our daughter has the most beautiful blue eyes ever. (And yes, he was the father!)

Probably not the most technical explanation ever, but it gives you the idea....:)

We were taught the wrong stuff in biology as students a long time ago. Yes, two brown eyed people can have a blue eyed baby. You have recessive genes for the blue eyes.

I have brown eyes, my husband has blue eyes, we have 2 daughters with green eyes and a son with blue eyes. I thought brown was dominant. My dogs both have brown eyes. I think they may be my real biological children! Ha ha!

Eye color is not quite that simple, and yes it's possible for two brown-eyed parents to have a blue-eyed baby. Brown eyes are dominant, and blue are recessive, so if the brown-eyed parents are also blue-eye carriers, the baby can have blue eyes if it gets the right genes.

Yes, two brown eyed parents can have a blue eyed child, and this actually follows the most simple rules of genetics. Blue eyes are, generally speaking, recessive to brown eyes. Say "B" is a gene for brown pigment and "b" is a gene for no pigment (default blue). Now, everyone has two genes for each trait, one from Mom and one from Dad. So people who have the gene combination BB or Bb have brown eyes, because their cells are making at least some brown pigment. Only people who have genes bb have blue eyes. (This is a simplification, but it works for our purposes.) Suppose that the two parents have: Man = Bb Woman = Bb Their child receives one gene from each parent, and therefore could be BB, Bb, or bb. So you see that under these circumstances, they could easily have a blue-eyed baby!

Both my parents are brown eyes and I have hazel/green/blue eyes (changes with what I wear) older brother has blue eyes younger brown; my grandma had green eyes so yes it is possible cause I am proof --- although I still do tease my mother about this (some 60 plus years later)
