No - it is not a baby chick
The only way it would be a baby chick is if it were fertilized, and then you wouldn't be eating it because it would be a baby chick

There are a few different parts to an unfertilized egg that are all very edible and harmless unless eaten in excess:

There's the outer hard shell (brown or white depending on the breed of chicken)
Then there's two shell membranes
After that, a pocket of air around the inside of the shell membranes
Then comes the Albumen (egg whites)
Then inside the albumen, connected to the yolk, is the chalaze (most people refer to this as the umbilical cord) -whichi it is NOT) which holds the yolk in place inside the shell . The thicker the chalaze, the fresher the egg.
Then there's the thin layer over the yolk that protects it from breaking more easily than it already does
Then there's the yolk

Maybe you should take an egg, break it in a bowl and study it if you're not sure.

Trust me on these answers - I'm a Chef, and I had to learn each part to get my degree. Good luck with not eating meat - garbanzo beans are an excellent source of protein also!

Well, in a way yes - it is an undeveloped embryo which wasn't given the chance to grow into a chicken yet. However, it's known that some eggs out there are artificially made, so there is a chance that an egg you're eating has no connection to an actual chicken altogether.

No, not at all. It WOULD be a potential chick if a rooster had mated with the hen at an appropriate time before it was laid though. It takes quite a long time and proper temperature for the chick to develop. You'd know the egg was fertile by a little spot of what would look like blood.

The yolk is not a baby chick but would be the food for a growing chick if the egg were fertilized.

Sassy's link is very good but be sure to click on the pictures as they are very informative.

No it is not a baby chicken!

I grew up with chickens and had to collect eggs. The yolk is not bad for you.

Only if you eat unhealthy, are overweight and have high cholesterol than you should change your diet.

yes, the yolk of the egg turns into the chick. If the chickens are not with the rooster then the eggs are not fertilized and then it is just the yolk.

NOOO!!! and anyone who says yes obviously hasnt taken anatomy or biology,,, the yolk is the food that the tiny baby bird feeds on while its in the egg....the part that IS the baby chick is the little white membrane that you see on top of the yolk when you first crack the egg
