Did you go back & check? If a bird gets knocked silly, it may die if on it's side or back. I saved a screech owl that glanced off my car by going back & checking on it. It ws on it's back, on the ground. I thought I killed it & picked it up to go back to the car to give it a decent burial. It then woke up & flapped a few feet. I stayed still for a minute & then moved towards it again, when it flapped off, looking fine. I have also done this for quite a few small birds who run into glass windows. Hold them upright in your warm hands till they wake up. If you can't (I had to go back into work) make a little dugout or them under a bush, & put it in the dugout so it is sitting upright. I have been very lucky doing this for birds! So have they!

I would have to say no. Without using a lot of math here I can tell you that if the vehicle is moving 30 miles an hour and the bird is flying at the car, you can bet the bird is traveling faster than 20 miles per hour meaning the G-force on that 2 pound bird is over 90 G's and 110 G's impact force will kill a man. If he lives through the crash he won't live long as internal organs damage is too great.

Yes he may have survived. Our african grey which is close to the size of a dove accidently ran into a moped that was going down our street. (long story) He fell to the pavement and was motionless and had a nasty bump on his forehead so to speak. Since it was a weekend and not many avian vets are in our area my husband decided to just watch him over the weekend. He seems to have had a nasty concussion as it took at least 3 weeks before he was back to normal but he is ok now. I think the dove would have probably had a nasty concussion like our bird did but may have survived.

It probably did some serious damage, but who knows! it could have been a lucky dove. Chances however are rather slim due to the size of the dove versus the speed of the car.

Do you think YOU could survive hitting the windshield if the DOVE was only going 30????

No, you probably killed it. Even though you hit just the lower half of it, it still would have done enough internal damage to the bird

Maybe, providing his neck didn't snap or his wings didn't break and a cat is eating him for dinner.

Maybe he flew off into a tree and is hemorrhaging internally, gasping away as his lungs slowly fill with blood.

Yes, birds are resilient creatures, I'm sure he/she is fine.
Also, the angle of the windshield may help.

You probably killed a number of creatures on your daily drive. Don't give yourself a guilt trip.
