I adopted a puppy(6 week old Border collie) from the pound along time ago. This puppy would not eat more then a nibble at a time. After 3 days of this I called the pound and they said bring him in so they can admit him.He was in the vet hospital for 2 days. They called me to say that it would be best to put the puppy to sleep because it had severe attachment disorder from its mom and shows signs of being abused to the point where the puppy was emotionly disturbed. They said I can get another pup in its place.I said no way.I went and got my puppy and it never did eat good. Was always skinny to where you could see its ribs. Was very nervous.Would never trust anyone except for me just a little.By time the dog was 2 years old it was coming around a little with trust but eating bad still.Cant tell you the final out come of my dog because my ex took and dumped the dog somewhere(that is part of the reason he is my ex).But if your dog is showing behaviors like my dog did then it probaly the same thing that my dog had.Give it lots of love.Thats all I can say.

She (1) doens't like what brands you choose (2) she is burning off what she does eat or (3) she needs a high fat/high protein diet - some do and better quality protein than in most commercial foos to boot.

I had an extrememy well bred young dog from a breed who is supposed to eat anything that won't eatt hem first who turned his nose up at everything - he would rather just not eat. Iams - no, Science Diet, No, Eukanuba - no and don't even ask about the grocery store dog foods like Purina - he thought those should be dumped directly in the trash.

He did agree to happily consume Solid Gold - a food used by the top dog show breeders and handlers.

You can't buy it at the grocery, Walmart or Petsmar but they have distributors all over.

Its more expensive than Iams but you end up feeding less because it is so concentrated and thus break even.

Also, try adding chicken or beef bullion to her food. Trick her intoo thinking it is more than it is. Add fish oil or corn oil to get the fat level up. And - STOP FEEDNG HER HUMAN FOOD WHILe YOU TRY THIS. Give it 7-10 days and see if she likes that combination.

I have a pure breed Siberian husky who is 9-1/2 years old. I got her when she was 5-1/2 months old, weighing 24 pounds. She is not 29 pounds. The runt of the litter with an overbite, she is a finicky eater and has always been skinny. She is mistaken for a puppy all the time. Bloodwork and her overall appearance shows how healthy she is, even though she's so skinny and small. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a308/tejas_yuki/dogs.jpg

You don't say how old your dog is, but if the vet feels she is fine, don't fret. You don't want a fat dog, as that is dangerous. If she is healthy per the veterinarian, than she's fine and your panicking. :)

Watch what you feed her, human food isn't good for dogs. Of coarse they love it and it eat, but she should be on a good, premium dog food for her to maintain her health (including vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbs, etc.). Dog food is balanced for a dogs needs.

Good luck.

not one time have i seen the mention of teeth...like humans dogs need their teeth cleaned...if there is a broken tooth and causing the dog pain the dog will eat very little therefore causing weightloss and also prevents the dog from eating

also an infection in the mouth and gums can be painful and cause the same as above...make sure the vet examines the mouth real good and take x-rays if needed to rule out dental problems

First of all make sure she dosen't have worms or fleas. We had a dog like that and I started feeding her canned Alpo. At least four times a day. This went on for about a month then I started cutting down on the food. Now it eats twice a day. It did work. But it took alot of patience.

merely through fact they have a level on their wall ( merely like human medical doctors) does no longer advise they're a stable vet. YOU call the photos...the vet works for you.you decide on a 2d opinion ASAP. You stated you spent $six hundred.00. i'm assuming that blood artwork, urinalysis and x-rays have been performed? if so, get copies of his blood artwork and get his x-rays and take them to the recent vet. they might have a commencing factor and would possibly no longer might desire to retest costing you additional funds. Is he ingesting and ingesting? Any diarrhea or vomiting?

I would get a second opinion from another vet. There has to be a reason she is not eating. I would try giving her some powdered calf milk replacement from a feed/farm store and sprinkle some of it on her food, it will give her the nutrition she is missing.
Good luck with her

Has there been a change in the household, death, divorce, someone move out or move in, new animals, etc???Sometimes change will affect them that way too. Feed her canned food & scrambled eggs ( not oily or greasy) and pasta. My mother bred boxers and would mix these things and dry food.

What tests did the vet run? Has she always been skinny or is this something that has happened over time?

If a dog is not eating, it is not well. Please get a second opinion.

MORE INFO??????? BREED, AGE, ACTIVITY,????????
STOP COOKING FOR HER UNLESS YOU PLAN ON IT FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. PEOPLE FOOD IS NOT MADE FOR DOGS. I HAVE A MALAMUTE/WOLF X THAT I THINK IS TOO SKINNY. VET SAYS HE'S NOT, BUT MY OTHER DOGS ARE TOO FAT. WHEN WE FEED, WE GIVE ZEUS ABOUT 10 MIN. EXTRA TO EAT. IF HE'S NOT EATING WE TAKE HIS BOWL AWAY. HE'S PUT A FEW POUNDS ON. REGULAR FEEDING SEEMS TO BE THE TRICK. THA ONLY PEOPLE FOOD THEY GET IS LEFT OVER MEAT. NOTHING WITH ADDITIVES.
