First thanks to all those that responded to my other question about my new cat Tweek.

As I said earlier I got Tweek from a friend of mine that couldn't keep him because she had to move. Other than Tweek being kind of a freak, hehe, the only problem is that I have a mild allergy to cats. Ive had cats before I had allergies but in the last few years Ive grown somewhat allergic to them, mainly watery and itchy eyes. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can keep my allergies in check OTHER than PILLS?

As I understand it the cat allergies come from the cat's saliva. As it licks its coat, it dries and the dry saliva is what people react to. I used to feel like I had a hair ball in my throat when I had my cats. My solution was to build them their own room and keep the rest of the apartment as clean as possible when ever they were allowed outside their room. You may not have that option, so I would try, and I know this is hard with a cat, to bathe it as often as possible. Other than that, I would try to do some detox. Our bodies, as we get older, develop more allergies usually because our liver and kidneys have too much toxins. So, may be you could also try a detox tea for a while or a liver cleanse. Just a thought.

If you can give Tweek a bath atleast once a month, this will cut down on the amount of dander. You will feel much better. I am extremely allergic to cats and have really bad reactions to them. I have been bathing my cat for years and she does not bother my allergies.

Hi I have both allergy's and a cat also. It's mainly the pet dander that causes allergy symptoms. Some cats don't mind a bath. but if that isn't possible..they have dry shampoo. it's like a powder..you put it on and brush it out. also keep area's carpets and such..clean. While I love my cat, I try not to get my face right up to him and snuggle too much.

The saliva drying on the fur is correct. (that the other poster posted) Try to wipe your cat down with a damp cloth a few times a day. There is a "cat bath" you can buy. It does not require you to bathe it, just dampen the cloth with this stuff. Main thing is to wash your hands fairly often after handling him.

I have a "hocus-pocus" suggestion and surprisingly, this seems to work. Crush one asprine tablet very fine and rub it on your forhead. Then, get this,,,,,rub aloe (from an aloe plant) in your palms. Pick up the cat and give your cat a kiss and accept your new family member. NO MORE ALLERGIES

you can buy eye drops for allergies, if it's just your eyes. I got kitty wet napkins from petsmart. they are big and wipe him down to reduce the dander. judging from your other question about him being stressed you may want to skip a bath for now

Have you tried bathing the kitty?
Sometimes that can help as it reduces the amount of cat dander.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck
