It's term from the Bible. It refers to the Jewish people because that's the group that God has favored and sent Jesus to.

it means that God picked Abram (Abraham) and promised that the Messiah (Jesus) would be born through his lineage, it was through that people He revealed Himself and His Word. There is nothing "special" about them in the sense that they are "better people", the OT is full of examples where God had to punish them for their disobedience, not to mention the fact that they did not recognize Messiah when he came. They are still His "chosen people" even though Gentiles (all the rest of us) have access to Jehovah through Christ. There are no 2nd class people, only believers and unbelievers. They will be "sealed" in the last days according to Revelation 7:3-8, so God isn't finished with them yet...

Jewish people are know as the chosen people because god appeared to them and spoke directly to them rather then in a dream or something. You know, Moses and the burning bush. At least I'm pretty sure this is the answer. I could be wrong.

The sons of Abraham, specifically of Isaac and Jacob are the "chosen ones". But Jesus taught that the sons of Abraham are those who hear his teachings and follow them.

Genesis 18
18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. 19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.

Deuteronomy 7
6 For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. 7 The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. 8 But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. 10 But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him.

John 8
"If you were Abraham's children," said Jesus, "then you would do the things Abraham did. 40As it is, you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41You are doing the things your own father does." "We are not illegitimate children," they protested. "The only Father we have is God himself."

42Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

Out of a number of people groups God chose one group whom we call Israel or Israelites today. There is no second class with God. You either love Him with all your heart and appreciate all the mercy and grace He has shown you or you choose to run the other way of destroying yourself and others in your path.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

absolutely not.
God had to choose a race from which the lineage of Adam was intact.... that would be the Jewish people. The reason is because he planned to redeem mankind with the seed of Adam's race IE Mary, who gave birth to Jesus

it means we (jews) are chosen for a special job.
it doesn't imply that other people are inferior.

consider a mayor of a city. he is chosen for a job. doesn't mean he's a better person than anyone else.
