I have a friend that wishes to use him to breed from, but he is only 6 months old. What age do they normally start breeding them from?

After he gets his AKC Championship.

AND

Affer he passes all the screening exams for hereditary health problems which can not be done unitl 2 years old. Just becasue he doesn't limp does not mean he doesn't have hip dysplaisa, elbow dysplasia, patella problems or cardiac, thyroid or eye abnormalities.

Most male dogs are able to breed at 9 to 12 months old,but is advisable to wait until at least 2 years old,but your friend needs to have the Brucilosis test done if her pet has ever been bred before.Make sure her pet is up to date on all vaccinations.

hi well we bred our female with a 1 year old male maybe like 1 year and 3 mons or so. Id say wait atleast another 6 mos. But we bred our female on her first heat and she was 1 year and 2 mos. and had beautiful red nose pits.
Id say if the female is in heat go ahead, and dont listen to these people about trying to not breed

if we stop breeding pits there will be none left right?
more power to you and me!

He may be fertile as early as 9 months. It is more important that the female is older (AT LEAST 18 months) to ensure a safe pregnancy.

its better to wait till they are 2 so he wil get to his full size if you breed sooner it stunts there growth. i hoped that helped. i have a friend that breeds them.

Never. neuter him and tell the prospective customers to adopt a pit from a shelter. why would he want to contribute to an overpopulation of dogs???

Tell your friend to check out www.petfinder.com if they want another dog. There are too many homeless ones to go making new ones for fun.
