Zilber is right about 40,000 baht up to about 60,000 baht or USD 1,000 to 1,500 per month. Depends on your life style.
Rent and utilities could be from 3,000 baht on up per month.
Food around 10,000 - 12,000 baht per month, average USD10 per day. This is a generous allowance too.
The rest is dependent on what you like to do. Movies, theatre, nightclubs.

So if you had like USD 15,000 you would be okay and cover airfare. Now if you had a boyfriend or girlfriend it would not go up that much. Or shared an apartment.

Internet access is reasonable at the internet cafes too. 30 - 90 baht per hour.

As you can see from the answers above your question is almost impossible to answer. There will be a very wide range in the figures quoted. However, when I stay in Thailand I live pretty comfortably on around 70,000 Baht a month - I would consider that the minimum spend to have the facilities I want. Having said that things have gotten more expensive in Thailand recently, so I can see that figure rising to around 80,000. At the same time I know people living very comfortably in the less central areas of Bangkok for 20,000 Baht per month. They have basic but wholly adequate accommodation, far better than you'd find in the West for much less money. The average teachers salary in Bangkok is around 35,000 Baht and they manage to survive - so you could use that as a benchmark. It also depends on which part of Thailand you are going to live in as Bangkok is generally more expensive that more rural parts of the country. Have a search back over some previous Yahoo Answers.
