Chickens are very dirty animals, especially if you know the way they are raised. It is said that meats/proteins will stay good for up to a week in the refrigerator, and then will be fine and mostly-bacteria free (but not free of vomit-inducing toxins released as a by-product of dying bacteria) if you reheat it to 185 degrees for at least 15 seconds. But who wants to eat a chicken that has been cooked to death? Best off pulling off the bone or slicing the breast and turning it into chicken salad within 2 or 3 days.

It's best not to let any prepared foods stay in the refrigerator for more than three days.

I wont eat cooked chicken that's been
in the frige over two days.
Being alone I usually freeze what I think
I can't eat in two days.
I also do other foods that way, eat what I want,
freeze the rest soon as it cools,
For another quick meal later.

I admit to being extremely cautious when it comes to food storage, but I never leave anything in the fridge for more than three days. The food may be perfectly OK, but I just don't trust it.
The exception would be a bottled condiment, jelly, or something intended for longer storage.
