"Birthmarks are skin markings that are present at birth or develop shortly afterward. Most birthmarks fall into one of two categories: port-wine stain birthmarks and coffee-and-cream birthmarks. Port-wine stains are vascular birthmarks, caused by a high concentration of blood vessels in a particular area. When found on the forehead, eyelids or side of the face, these birthmarks are associated with an increased risk of glaucoma and seizures. Coffee-and-cream birthmarks are simply patches of skin that have a high concentration of pigmentation.

Until the 1990s, doctors didn’t have the technology necessary to effectively remove birthmarks. Due to the introduction of high-energy pulsing lasers, birthmarks can now be removed with precision and ease. An added benefit of these laser treatments is that they are nearly pain-free. So, if you have birthmarks that you find unattractive or irritating, you may now be able to have them removed.

If you're considering laser treatments for birthmark removal, the following information will provide you with a good introduction to the options available. For more detailed information about how this procedure may help you, we recommend that you consult a dermatologist who is board certified or has completed a residency program that includes instruction in this procedure."

I found this one a website that seems to know a lot about this kind of thing. There was a lot of stuff that popped up in the search engines I checked, so apparently it's possible.

The site, on the page I will link to (which has the info I pasted here), also has links to information like: What some of the most common benefits of this treatment?; How are the treatments performed?; How long do the treatments take?; How much pain is there?; What can I expect afterward?; Risks; Costs;and Finding a doctor that specializes in Birthmark Removal. ...Among other things.

This next link is an interview and everything that was done with CBS's Morning Show. It talks about birthmark removal, specifically with a girl who has a birthmark in the same location as yourself. It has some good links on there for where you can go/call/etc. about birthmark removal.

I hope this helps!

Good luck!

Hi,

Although it might not be the cheapest way to go, I think your best bet will be laser birthmark removal treatments.

It usually takes 1 or 2 treatments. Very large or stubborn birthmarks may take 3 treatments. Think of it as an investment in yourself & in your appearance. If you don't have all the money now, maybe you could save up for it, or else see if they have a payment plan so you can get the treatments done sooner.

It's fairly new, it's virtually painless, and it's permanent. You can get 75-95% reduction in appearance of birthmarks. I understand the results can be truly amazing in some cases! I've used lasers for other things but not birthmarks yet.

I'm not sure if they can do it near the eyes or not either, Be sure to ask because they might have different guidelines for using lasers around the eyes. Anyway, it's certainly worth looking into. I left you a couple links I found while researching "birthmark removal using lasers." There were quite a few other sources out there, but they all seemed to say pretty much the same thing.

Hope this helped.

Good luck.

Some birthmarks fade over time, but that usually happens as a child. I had one on my face, but it was gone before I was 3 years old. Talk to your doctor about what types of things you could do about it. there may be a laser treatment or something out there. good luck

Birthmarks won't go away unless you have surgery which will leave scars.
