it will take a little time especially once you've allowed it or ignored the situation for a while. however, try this:
tell you dog NO, OFF. and shove him off. tell him to sit then with the best sweet voice you can squish out of your voice, give him all the credit you can give for his sitting! really over do it if you have to. but once back on the couch, its "NO, OFF" stern and unhappy, and shove off. give him a blanket to sit on or a cushion, and always when he sits there or lies down, (when not sleeping) go to him and give him your best "what a good dog Bozo is! see you are such a good dog! oh I love good dogs" pep up praise. believe me, dogs understand that the best. hitting or yelling will get attention from you to it, and that's whats its looking for! so, make getting on the blanket or cushion a praising award. its a good place, not a punishing place, attitude. they will get the message. sometimes even give it a treat only there. or decide a special treat for it which it only will get there, there is a difference, try it, it worked for all the dogs I've had!

If u dont mind the smell of citronella urself, try spraying ur sofa with it, dogs hate the stuff and generally stay away from it. Obviously u would have to make sure the spray wouldnt damage ur sofa first by spraying a tiny amount on a small area that isnt visible. U should b able to get some from ur nearest pet supplies store

This will take time but you gotta keep geting out of the dogs eye site but where you can see the couch. When the dog gets on the couch you have to go in the room and make him get down. You want to use a strict voice but do not yell at the dog.It will take time so good luck.

I have 2 small dogs who are aloud on the couch...but not my golden retriever (I know, it's not fair). When we would go away or go to bed, we would lay newspaper on the couch and chairs. For some reason she doesn't like the sound or feel of it when she tries to get up. We did this for about 6 months and she no longer tries to get on the couch. Works for us! If you try it, good luck!!!

Our dogs seem to always get on our couch. We've yet to break them of that. So we bought an inexpensive blanket to keep on the couch. So now when were home, there not on the couch, when were gone we don't have to worry.

A dog is man's best friend. They will love us as well as our table food and our couches. That is a given. It really just boils down to training, you have to be more confident with them and eventually they'll get. If it doesn't work as well as you'd like I found a good dog trainer site that might help you out.

Don't look now..The dogs on the couch again. Buy the dog a comfy pet bed so it has it's own spot to watch t.v. Fill it w/ toys.chewy things and stuff.

Hi I had this problem w/ my golden retrievr and I found a great gadget at www.doctorsfosterandsmith.com Its a plastic mat that you leave on the couch...it has hard little nubs(not sharp) that will bother your dog when he trys to get up on the couch and lie down.....after a while he won't even try to!...

Why don't you try buying him his own little bed so he can lay down in there instead of your couch. I couldn't help but to say Aww and laugh at your question only because I love dogs.
