I do it once a week, unless it needs it more.
I hate to worry about dust mites or bed bugs or anything.

Once a week is fine. Changing the sheets will not get rid of dust mites, they live in your pillows and carpeting too. Bedbugs are also not affected by clean sheets, they live in the seams of your mattress. You can have special covers installed on your mattress and pillows which will reduce dust mite allergens, but only an exterminator can get rid of bedbugs.
I like the smell of clean sheets, it's wonderful.

Since mites eat ead skin cells-can't see you need to change more every 2-3days- 3days MAXif you've sweated -change also wash in hot water for only thing that kills mites(any) is Heat. Get antibacterial lining for the mattress-does wonders against Mites Dust Mites-are controlled by keeping dust to minimum-no dust build up and Vacuum if not each day every 2nd day---not the same as skin (bed)mites. Keeping it clean-less mites/bugs.

I also change the sheets at least once a week and sometimes twice if I have the time. I like my sheets to smell clean.

I thought they were supposed to rot off the bed then you buy new ones.

kidding.

the once a week thing is rule of thumb. especially if you shower in the evening before getting in them. if you shower in the morning when you wake up and get in your sheets at the end of each day nasty.. well then.. more often.

i generally follow the weekly rule, unless there is visible dirt or something. also, if the pets have been on the bed, i'll change them more frequently. i make sure that i wash my sheets in hot water and bleach to make sure everything is really clean. (thanks to the clorox company for feeding my ocd!)

Once a week is good unless there is visible soil in between.
