Take Ibuprofin and chew sugar free gum (seriously). Thats what my ortho told me to do and its really helped. Chewing gum helps stimulate blood flow to the gums and this will reduce the amount of pain you have.
I was also given a grape scented rubber bite wafer to chew on and it helps as well.

Well really there isn't a very good way of making the pain go away I have braces too. I take advil when my braces hurt or I use this stuff called Kanka it is a numbing medicine/liquid it taste like cinamon and it helps the pain go away for a little bit but it's kind of a pain to have to keep putting the stuff on. Well sorry your braces hurt it does get a lot better soon. Well hope this helps you some

The 1st 3 weeks were the worst for me. I felt like I had made a horrible mistake of getting braces if the pain was going to be that bad. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory & is used for moderate pain. I also found relief by gently exercising my facial & jaw muscles (just open your mouth a little & make a chewing motion without having your top & bottom teeth touch). Tylenol is effective for mild pain, but lacks any anti-inflammory ingredients.

I had braces when i was 13 - 16 and when they were first put on my mouth hurt a lot too. It also happened whenever i had to get them adjusted (I think once a month). I don't know how old you are, but if you are under 18 you should ask her or your dad if you can have a tylenol or something like that. (acetominiphen0, but be sure you check with them. I also want to encourage you that they don't hurt all the time.

I had braces too and went through that SAME exact thing. Take some advil and do something to get your mind off the pain like watching TV, reading a book, etc... Sleeping would probably also be a good idea. Just remember that you aren't the only one going through that right now, trust me.

Hope I could help :)

Your dentist should have given you some pain medication for the first few days so I would advise you to call him and see if he can prescribe something for you if the pain is severe. If it is not, try Tylenol and you can also rub Ambesol on the gums that are aching the most from the braces. The pain does subside but it takes a few days, but the beautiful smile is worth it- good luck

I still have mines on so I share your pain.
I took pain killers like Tylenol and stuff that kinda eased the pain.
But the hurt will be over in a couple of days so don't try to let it bug you too much! Trust me, this process will ALL pay off with nice, straight teeth. Remember to eat soft food so it doesn't hurt your teeeth even more.

See a Palmer-graduated Chiropractor or Naturopath. You very likely have what's called a "1st-Rib Syndrome", caused by that head-turn at just a wrong moment. Don't do any sports or exercises till it is properly cared for. A good D.C. or N.D. can solve the problem in one visit; don't be 'sold' ten visits! No pain-pills or muscle relaxers will help; it is a mechanical problem (a block) & it can cause more problems. Stop stomach-sleeping.

try advil or anything like it. pick up some braces wax (found in the toothpaste isle) it helps a ton. just make sure your braces arent really wet and press it into the braces. it keeps a place between the inside of your mouth and your braces. i know how hard it is =[ best of luck to you.

You can get some medicine from the drugstore that you rub on your gums Ambusol (sp). Time is a big factor because your teeth are moving, as they move the pain will decrease. Be careful this is the time ,someone will hit you in the mouth by accident.
