Don't waste your money on a bowflex. There's a reason they keep having factory recalls.

For the same price you can go to a gym for years and years. And its easier to replace a gym than to replace those flexy rods. (yes, they do wear out)

Now if you were a Physical Therapist then I think a bowflex would be useful for rehabilitation, but for the uninjured it's a waste of time and money.

The big problem with the bowflex is because it uses springs (they are springs no matter what the company says) it is at its weakest when you need it to be at its strongest. For example with freeweights the hardest part in a squat is at the bottom when you have to start pushing up, but with a bowflex the springs have their minimal flexion and thus much less resistance. This is a problem. If you learn to squat 200 lbs on a bowflex then accompny your best friend to his/her gym you will quickly learn that you can't really squat 200 lbs. And it may cause you a nasty injury.

A much better investment would be a quality Power Rack, bench, dumbells, steel plates, and an olympic bar.

And on a personal note I was maxing out the benchpress on a bowflex when the handle broke. The cable then whipped back and lacerated my cheek 1 inch below my eye. Thanx Bowflex, I appreciated that.

For the money you are better off getting a a bench and some free weights (barbell and dumbbells).
