Is it because people just don't like religion? Because there is a lot of religion bashing on this website.

I think it might be because it's such a touchy subject, and people will give the thumbs down to any question or answer that does not agree with their own particular belief (or non belief)
I have noticed thumbs down on many good questions and answers because someone doesnt agree with what's asked or said. I expect some thumbs down on not only your question, but my answer too.

There are soooooo many religions that some people don't know what to believe, some people get hurt and they lose faith. Some people believe that their religion is better than others, some are just in a bad mood, other mean something but it's interpreted another way, there's many reasons why.

Yes, you should also expect a thumbs down when you provide objective, factual information with a neutral source like wikipedia. People just want to kick around a little dirt.

religion and politics are amoung the most debated topics in the world. there are so many different views, people are bound to disagree. some people arent mature enough to agree to disagree in an adultlike manner, that would include respect of the other's opinion even if it's in direct opposition with your's.

Why is there someone (and I'd bet my life it's a Christian) who's here a lot who seems to go out of their way to thumbs-down everything of mine? When I ask a question, they almost always get it even before it's answered. That's petty as hell.

Yes that and b/c poelpe all beleive in different things, and have different thoughts on everything. nobody is the same it is basically like that w/ every question and answer.
