I am 25 years old and have been considering seeing a therapist. I am not depressed or anything like that. I just often get these feelings that I don't like things about myself. Like certain personality traits or the way I handle things. I don't like my confidence level or how Im so affraid to do some things. I know I would get by just fine in life without one, but maybe it could help my self image. Is this a good enough reason to see a therapist or willl they think Im crazy for going to them since I don't have any "serious" issues?

Sure. If you think that you'll benefit from seeing a therapist, that's reason enough. Lots of people see a therapist just to help them deal with day-to-day stress, or to have someone to talk to about fairly normal problems. You don't have to be "broken" or "damaged" to benefit from talking to a therapist. Serious is a relative term, and if it's something that bothers you, no therapist will look down on you for want help with it.

If you are in a position to have your sessions covered by insurance or can afford them on your own, then I say you should go ahead and make an appointment. You don't need serious issues to want to see a therapist. Many people have similar feelings and find that going in for four-six sessions do wonders. Self image issues are something every therapist has worked with and while, in many cases, these doubts are not crippiling, they still have a negative impact on a person't life. Find out what your insurance covers, make some calls and try a few sessions. If it helps,,,,great. If you try it and find it isn't really what you want, no harm done!

You seem to be suffering from low self esteem and yes, seeing a counselor is a solution. You may also consider group counseling sessions where everyone has some type of issue and you take turns discussing them with others and a counselor is also present. And no, they wont think you are "crazy", your low self esteem could lead to depression in the future so it is good you recognized a problem early on so you can get help now rather than later. Good luck

i am a therapist and a word of advice is that you will always be special to someone so when times get rough or you feel like killing yourself or hating yourself then either talk to someone you love and that you know cares about you or just go and do the one or two things that make you the most happy! like i myself like singing and dancing (lol) so thats what i do when i feel depressed. also a good thing is to buy a punching bag and hit it every time your aggravated or something! just don't ever get to far into your mind or things will start to become what you feel sometimes....and let me tell you the truth ...that can mess up the rest of your mind and life! good luck!

p.s. seeing a therapist is all in your mind...they make you feel like nothing is wrong or they ask you to tell how you feel and then make **** up for it! i know im one but im not that kind! i help people with tragic events in life but im not stupid and neither are you! trust me its a waste plus the more you can control it the better person you become!

They sure won't think you're crazy when you're paying them at least $100 per hour.

It sounds like you really need someone to talk to, and a therapist might be the right person. It seems like you don't have any dangerous psychiatric disorders or anything, you are just very aware of yourself and how you feel. That's a good thing.

Go see a psychologist. I think you'll be glad that you did.

yes it's reason enough, that's what they are there for. I see a therapist (I'm 34) for some of the same things.

Make sure you "interview " a few though to find one you like and that you click with. i myself being a woman, prefer a woman therapist over a mna, but that's just me. You don't have to go to the first one you find if you don't like them. Also your insurance may cover a certain amount of visits per year so if you have insurance check with them.

I started seeing a therapist when I was suffering from mild depression when I was 23. It was the best thing I ever did.

Yes. It is a common reason for seeing a therapist. You may only need a few sessions to address these concerns.
