My dad has psoriasis. he was diagnosed last year, but he has had it for 4 years now. The doctor said that it was caused by stress, and idk how to help him. Right now his whole famliy has backstabbed him and turned against him, i feel soo badly for him and idk how to help him. His job sucks (he works at a factory and they exploit him a lot, today when he came home from work he hit his knee very hard with a machine and he started bleeding very badly where he has psoriasis. He wants to quit his job and get SSI (http://www.ssa.gov/d&s1.htm) but he thinks he might get rejected, anyway my mom, my sisters, and I don't know how to help him. NObody knows about his disease (they've seen him with his "rashes" but they don't know it's a disease, like i said b4, his family has turned against him) and i just simply don't know! how should i help him? I love my dad SOO much for being such a great dad! (if i think of anything else to add i'll add more details later)

Hi Ghetto Girl

Here is how to heal the disease. Several great ways to attack it.

Cause
Psoriasis is metabolic in nature and can be triggered by environmental or stressful conditions, poor diet, flu-like conditions, the administration of penicillin, and nutritional deficiencies. Patients with psoriasis are also a higher risk of rheumatoid diseases.

Psoriasis can be caused by food allergies, essential fatty acid deficiencies, low digestive enzyme and hydrochloric acid levels, vitamin B complex deficiencies, emotional stress, illness, drugs (such as beta-blockers, lithium, and chloroquine), poison ivy or oak, skin damage, and several infections, bacterial or viral in origin.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: The following essential oils are recommended: bergamot (to help heal skin plaques), lavender (to reduce excessive itching), melissa (for irritated skin), jasmine (for dry sensitive skin), geranium (for dry irritating skin), and sandalwood mysore (for dehydrated, inflamed, and sensitive skin).

Diet: Screen for and eliminate all foods to which you are allergic or sensitive. Eat a varied diet of organic, whole foods, rotating foods as much as possible. Eliminate wheat and wheat products for 1-3 months. Consume seafood high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as wild salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring, and each day, on a rotating basis, take one tablespoon of olive or flaxseed oil, and be sure to drink plenty of pure, filtered water. Organic beef, venison, poultry, garlic, onions, parsley, organic plain yogurt, and sauerkraut are also recommended.

Flower Essences: Rescue Remedy Cream® applied topically can soothe symptoms.

Herbs: Combine equal parts of burdock, sarsaparilla, and cleavers tinctures and take one teaspoon three times a day. Silymarin (milk thistle) is also helpful for psoriasis due to its positive effects on liver function.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include Psorinum, Sulfur, Graphites, Cuprum met., and Arsen alb.

Hydrotherapy: Hydrotherapy is the application of water, ice, steam and hot and cold temperatures to maintain and restore health. Treatments include full body immersion, steam baths, saunas, sitz baths, colonic irrigation and the application of hot and/or cold compresses. Hydrotherapy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions and can easily be used in the home as part of a self-care program. Many Naturopathic Physicians, Physical Therapists and Day Spas use Hydrotherapy as part of treatment. I suggest several at-home hydrotherapy treatments.
*Purified water is essential for any hydrotherapy treatment. Remedies for Treating Chlorinated Bath Water offers clear instructions and recommendations.

Juice Therapy: The following juice combinations can be helpful: apple and carrot; beet, cucumber, and grape; and beet, carrot, burdock, yellowdock and garlic.

Lifestyle: Mild cases of psoriasis may be helped by daily exposure to sunlight. Frequent exercise is also recommended.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutrients can be helpful: evening primrose oil, omega-3 essential fatty acids, vitamin A, vitamin B Complex, vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, vitamin C with bioflavonoids, folic acid, lecithin, zinc, and a multimineral supplement. Taking hydrochloric acid (HCL) with each meal can also be of use.

In Europe fumaric acid treatment in the form of fumaric acid tablets, ointment, lotion, and scalp lotions is widely used to reverse symptoms of psoriasis

Topical Treatment: Apply seawater to the affected skin several times daily. Linseed or avocado oil, aloe vera gel, and/or capsaicin cream applied topically can reduce the scaling, thickness, redness, and itching.

Alternative Professional Care
If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating psoriasis: Acupuncture, Biofeedback Training, Bodywork, Chelation Therapy, Detoxification Therapy, Environmental Medicine, Guided Imagery, Hypnotherapy, Light Therapy, Magnetic Field Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Orthomolecular Medicine, Osteopathy, Oxygen Therapy, Reflexology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.

I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.

And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.

And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

I also have a form of psoriasis and contact dermatitis. It is a very painful and depressing disease. The best thing to do to help is just be there for him. A lot of people who have psoriasis are on disability. Right now, mine is so bad, that I am on temp disability until I can get it under control. He should ask his doctor about getting on Raptiva. I am starting it within the next 2 weeks. I have heard a lot of good things about Raptiva. It's an injectible that is done once a week. Check out the website on it and ask his doctor!

Have done research. Psoriasis is actually a imunosuppresent disease. A disease of the immune system. Your skin cells shed every 30 days. Some one with Psoriasis skin cells shed every 3 days. Thats what causes the "red scaling" you see on your father. There are several different things that can be done for psoriasis. First thing your father needs to do is educate people about this condition. If he is not getting the answers he needs from his current doctor find a new one. A few things that will help are exposure to sun. Keep the scaling moisturized. There are creams that can be prescribed to help his conditon. There are injectables or biologicals but they are VERY expensive but insurance will cover them if his doctor prescribes them for him. Also psoriasis is not a condition he would be able to get SSI with. Good Luck.

I feel about your dad's case. People have no rights to reject him because of Psoriasis. It is not even contagious. If you really want to help your dad, bring him to a dermatologist..they know what to do. They can give medications so that the lesions or affected area will improve. I know HMO's or some insurance cover the expenses for this. Phototherapy will also work for Psoriasis. Hope this helps. God bless you and your family.

Psoriasis is a genetic disposition, a genetic fault with your genes, i have 50% psoriasis aprox, it can be triggered of by stress, infection, trauma ect, i was hurt at work, thorn stuck into my hand got infected, that was that, dad was run over by tractor he got it, i have a identical brother he is fine, psoriasis is a disease you cant catch it, the skin repairs itself 10 times faster than normal, i take it he gets fatigued (tired), his body is flat out make more skin so you do get tiered, dad is being paid by work cover in Victoria Australia for all his medical expenses, as it was work related, if we had known earlier he could have claimed every thing but he already had been paid out for pain and suffering, he is going to try and claim for scarring, I am trying to get paid for mine as I have psoriatic arthritis, some people get it with psoriasis, and its worse than the skin, mine is work related to but those lying so n so from work cover trying to get out of it. Paying dad but me, they know it will cost them. I am on a disability pension, take down details of everything they do at work ect, your dad might need it later, harassment if he was working at the time could have caused it, car crash ect. Think and work out when he got it were he was, what he was doing and study the info on the net as much as you can, if it was work get all your notes together go over and over, and if you think it was work and you keep a diary of what works doing to him , then see a lawyer, no win no pay one, and go for it, lets see the family give him crap if he gets paid for it. See a skin specialist asap, get treatment on it straight away, uv lighting is good at skin specialist, you back him all the way, you are what he needs not the rest of the family just you lot. you can die from it too, not comon, but it does happen,There is ointments, davonex, dithronol short contact, coal tar bathing, coal tar cream ect. Help him, depression will get him too, makes it worse, i know its embarrassing, you have to cover up to go out, answer the door, cant go to the beach, wear short, so on and so on, get him to see a psychiatrist too, it helps, and i am a typical aussie from the bush, none of this sooking, but 14 years wears anyone down, its like torture, and i put my family first, only the 15 year old girl home now, time for me now. Help him put his creams on and anything else you can do, you get sick and tired of doing it every day every day, i take it he itches all night cant sleep properly, it makes you a bit snappy, as long as you understand why he is moody. Sleep depravation, and he has to work. I don’t know if i helped but if you search psoriasis info on the net you will find heaps, there is online depression tests to, get him to do one, or six. Good luck.
