ok, first take a decongestant to make sure you are not having a runny nose( could aggravate throat). then definately take a cough suppressant ( available at any drug store), then warm drinks help, like tea with honey, or chicken soup(really!) will coat and soothe you throat. theraflu works good, too( the kind you dissolve in water) good luck!

It all depends on why you are coughing. If you have are coughing up stuff then you need something like Mucinex that is an expectorant and will help loosen the stuff up and will help clear up the cough. If it is a dry hacking cough, or is accompanied by a dry scratchy throat then the best thing I know of is to take 1 navel orange, 1 grapefruit, and one lemon. Squeeze the juice out and add honey to make it sweet. It will soothe your throat and help control the cough some. Also sometimes sucking on a hard candy will help with a dry cough. You can suck on as many as you like since there is no medicine in them. Just be careful not to choke on the candy when coughing. You can ask your doc for a different prescription too if the one he gave you isn't working. I know when I get bronchitis I usualy get a cough suryp with codeine in it.

This is kinda an old home remedy, but when i get a bad cough i swallow 2 tablespoons of honey. It seems to soothe my throat, although I need to use it every hour or so for the first day. Try using Eucalyptus cough drops too.

You might have bronchitis -- call your doctor and tell him/her that the medication prescribed didn't work. I have found that this works -- cough suppressant with a expectorant works best. You want your cough to be productive and get rid of the phlegm from your chest but you don't' want the cough to ware you out. Go to the pharmacist and ask for an over the counter cough suppressant that is also and expectorant and/or decongestant.

if you want an easy, herbal remedy:
Cinnamon Tea
- about a 1/2 oz of cinnamon bark (not powder)
-a hint of dried mint leaves
- honey (to your taste, I recommend a spoonful for a cup)
- lemon(optional)

Boil the cinnamon and mint together until the water turns slightly goldish/red
Strain into a cup, stir in honey, squirt a bit of lemon in and drink it.

Its very soothing, it relieves pressure, and it can help you sleep easier.

Heat a glass of honey and rum. Mix to taste, try equal parts. Sip as necessary.

Don't drink dairy. Prop yourself up when you sleep. Try some tea w/lemon and a shot of whiskey, hot tottie. Don't smoke if you do smoke.
Hope you feel better real soon.
