No, Sandy West, the drummer for the Runaways died. They wer friends - and that was Joan's first band.

"Has Joan Jett dead?" indeed she is, she was walking across a street in West Hollywood when she was struck by car driven by Tiberas Litmun, you might better know Tiberas as one of the Umpa Lumpas from Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory. There were about 15 Umpa Lumpas packed into a 1990 red Honda civic on their way to the Labor Board of appeals to protest poor working condition at the factory. Tiberas was arguing with the other Umpa Lumpas on weather to make a left or right or just to keep driving straight.
Joan never knew what hit her according to eye witnesses and the car never stopped Tiberas just kept driving and was pulled over a short time later. He will be arraigned sometime next week, he will charged with reckless driving.
Funeral arrangements will be posted in a couple days for Joan Jett.

No, she's still alive.
However, a former bandmate of her just died, which could have caused the confusion.
If you go to http://news.google.com you can see what news articles have been recently posted around the world on any subject, like "Joan Jett", just by searching it.
Also, Wikipedia is pretty good at changing their encyclopedia entries very quickly when it comes to deaths. There's no mention of it on the Joan Jett page there, either.
