Well everythings relative, LOL!

Not trainable as, say, a Golden or Sheltie. Sighthounds in general often have their own ideas about things and their own agenda which may or may not be the same as yours. The trick is to make them think it is their decision to do things. They do not usually see the point in repetition and will get bored easily, you will need to do all kinds of things to keep it interesting. Force and harsh techniques do not work well for Whippets and they will just shut down on you. However, they do tend to be treat motivated. I would NEVER trust one off lead, one rabbit and your dog is likely to be gone and never seen again

They are very smart and will get into the darndest things. They are very good at manipulating and training you!

I love the way they think for themselves, they were bred to hunt without direction from the hunter. It is good to have a sense of humor when you have Whippets!

And they don't need a sandwich! They are ATHLETES, not roly poly Labs, hard and muscular. Have you ever seen a chubby human sprinter???

The whippet that was in my agility class was an excellent student. Knew every command to a tee. Loved the teeter, but not so much the sound when it came down at the other end. The only issue they had was getting her to run at full speed. She'd trot around the course like she was taking a stroll in the park. The whole "timed course" didn't mean a thing to her lol.
They are easy to train, (keep in mind every dog's different) so long as your willing.
Good luck hope this helps.

Yes. Whippets are a reasonably intelligent breed, but very high energy and can be a bit nervous in disposition.

Do you mean for basic obedience- heel, sit, stay come or the more advance work of retrieving and jumping and hand signals?

VIrtually any dog can learn the basics.

Whippets tend to be distactable (that desire to run and chase) so you adjust your methods to their temperment. They are usually not dominant personalities and once you keep their attentin, they are happy to go along with you.

As a candidate for upper level obedience degrees (CDX, UD, OTCH).....well, they wouldn't be my pick.

That may depent on its personality. Ones may learn faster than others. It may take from 6 to 12 months. Good luck!
