just walking isnt going to make you loose your belly...try crunches or even tai bo...yes it really works and you feel alot better. there is an exercise that looks easy but works every muscle.. get down like a push up and instead of using your hands lay on your elbows with the forarm straight out. make your body flat, dont stick your butt in the air and be like that until you cant take it anymore. NO PAIN NO GAIN...right. your feet should be like they are when doing a pushup. This really works. When i lost my belly i was doing those and tai bo and drinking a lot of water, i paid attention to what i ate but it wasnt a big deal as long as i done those things everyday.

There's a difference between losing weight and toning the muscles. When you lose weight, you tend to lose it in reverse of how you gained it. So, for example, if you gained weight in your thighs last, you will tend to lose that weight first.

Your friend is right that walking isn't the best way to tone your stomach muscles, but that won't affect the weight that you're carrying around your middle. You could do 100 sit ups every night and have really toned abs, covered with a layer of fat. To lose fat, you have to burn the calories. And walking your treadmill is a very good way to burn calories. Keep at it!

Good luck!

She's a hater. You are doing well for walking 60 minutes on a treadmill. Hopefully you are doing it 4-5 times a week and walking briskly. You are burning calories, which in the long term will burn fat off your entire body. Your stomach will eventually lose its fat and then you can tell your friend to kiss your flat stomach.

you do loose some weight, any exercises lead to loosing calories, hence weight, but if you try to keep a very simple diet too, like cut something from your meals, then the effect will be more visible and you could demonstrate your friend that if you put effort into it you can loose weight. Good Luck

Unfortunately I have heard that too, walking on the treadmill is great for you in helping loose weight but to tone the abs you will have to do something to target that area.

Whereever you have excess weight -if you workout, stay active--WATCH WHAT YOU EAT and you will lose the weight even excess weight on the stomach-abomen area. Your friend either uninformed or mean How else would people get washboard abs-would not be possible if kept all stomach fat.

if you do that you will lose weight all over. thats how the body works....think about it you never see someone with really skinny legs and a flabby stomach(well atleast not usually:) so dont worry if you keep up with the treadmill you will lose weight all over.

Walking in general is a very good exercise overall! I think your friend dosn't know what she is talking about. Any exercise at all reduces your risk of many diseases and helps you! "Walk Away the Pounds" by Leslie Sansone is a very good resource!

i think she was hating on ya...I was in the navy and at that time i was really thin. Then i got discarged and got REALLY fat. I then just watched what i ate and tried light training. It worked and my stomach slimed down with the rest of my body...just like it did when i was in the military. Don't worry, you'll get there, it just takes time. Good luck!

Then what would you do to lose stomach fat? Her reasoning doesn't make sense. Exercise helps to lose fat from all over your body.
