it says that you should not base everything around your ancestors but to rather go out there and do something that makes you happy, something that makes you work hard and something that gives you a reason to be happy about! greatness is about how far you have come and not to compare yourself to your ancestors but to rather do things in your own timely manner and make yourself happy somewhere along the way. greatness is not recorded in how wealthy you are but what you do with your life, how you spend it, how you enjoy it and how you make your dreams come true and leave a leagacy. the legacy that you want to leave is one of good, fun, becoming wiser and learning a lesson or two, having to grow up really fast and appreciating life still. greatness is based on noble, kind, generous, your character in life and the things that define you as a person rather than possesion: goals, a family, happiness, love, being a nice intelligent person, never doing wrong, etc. greatness looks at how far you have come from point A to point B, your obstacles, your triumphs, joys, laughter, sadness as well as maturing, understanding and never wanting to change because who we are is greatness: character, spirit, morals, values, everything around us.the things in life that impact us the most and shape us and our life can be considered greatness!

I suppose it is an extension across the generations of the saying "not to rest on your laurels". Certainly some countries with illustrious pasts are in a mess now and have difficulty in adjusting to present world realities. I am not sure that lack of nobility of aspiration describes their problem more being unrealistic about them. On the whole though I do not think that aspiration, however noble, matches the exceptional achievements of some great ancestors.

I disagree.

People before us and around us have "planted seeds". Quantum leaps in society arise both from noble inspiration and the foresight to stand on the shoulders of greatness so that we may envision the future.
