Okay, it just seems that every time I have to call for support, whether it be my credit card, internet, health care, etc. I always get some person who can barely speak English. What the heck is going on? Is it too much to ask that the "help" speak good AND proper English. Sheez...........I'm fed up!

You are very right. I am a foreigner as well, but it irritates me
when I get a person on the phone that can not understand me, (I have an accent) and whom I can not understand. If I was an American, I would be very mad.

Well,I see that you really don´t know what in heck is going on, not every time you dial for help or assistance or whatever you are talking to a person in the U.S. a lot of calls are re-routed to other countries why? because there are English speaking people ( as a second language ) there whose labor wages are cheaper than in the U.S. , for instance there is a software company with an 800 number for assistance and in reality you are talking to some computer guy in India didn´t you see 60 minutes? .

Sounds like you are speaking to customer service representatives in India. Many American companies hire Indian representatives as outsourcing. I wouldn't say that they could barely speak English, though, considering that many people from India are essentially native speakers of English. They simply speak a different dialect from yours. It's like saying that a person from England barely speaks English.

Now, certainly, there are differences between the dialects, but the fact that you find it difficult to communicate with speakers of another dialect of English. There are two ways to resolve this: the company can train its workers to use a dialect that is easier for you to understand, or you can expose yourself to different dialects of English so you can adapt more easily to similar situations in the future.

most tech support is outsourced to india, and they dont get minimum wage its actually a fairly good paying job,why you ask is it like that, because many many americans would rather be in the office making the big bucks then be in the office answering the phone, and helping clueless idiots figure out why they cant get the font they want. quite frankly there well trained and for the most part know what theyre doing, sure its frusterating, but think how it is for them having to talk to a yahoo who has no idea that they are 6000 miles away screaming about those damn foriegners

Most companies outsource call centres to India or China. Simply to take advantage of cheaper wages and probably the time difference. Get use it bud, that going to be the tread.

I think it is because either the companies save money by setting up shop in other countries where it will be cheaper. Or because immigrants are often stuck with low paying jobs, such as "technical support."

another clue to the inevetable world take over of the u.s. Every country sends us their poor weak huddled masses so that "their" country wont have to deal with them. so in 20 years, "OUR" country wont be a country at all. It will be just a bunch of illiterate criminals in a weak society. I really think imigration into the u.s. should be banned unless someones married.

No, it's not. But it is good business to outsource. Why pay US minimum wage when you can pay Bangladesh minimum pay? He who pays the piper calls the tune.
