He hadn't a clue about Parvo virus. AND he asked me what breed of dog I had with me - a classically marked pure border collie!!!

That's a worry, although unfortunately like any profession, there are some very stupid people out there.

Follow the links page for the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association: http://canadianveterinarians.net/links.aspx
You should also be able to find the organisation for your region- most of these should let you do a search for registered vets in the area. Not all members will necessarily be listed (they can request not to) but if you contact the organisation they should be able to help you out. They also generally provide information on how to go about making an official complaint and that sort of thing.

Does Canada have a government website? In the US you can go on the state government website and check licenses. You first need to know what your government requires of vets and then you can check if he has it. Or like someone else said just ask to see his license or maybe switch vets!

Most vets prominently display their degrees on the wall for the public to admire. You could get the name of the school from that and contact them and check if they admit to knowing him.

Also, does your state have a registry of licensed vets?
This is similar to licensed doctors. All states have those.

Oh, Canada. I was going to suggest that you check with the state. But in Canada-I don't know how that deal with such. Surly they must have a license bureau you can check with..

Hey-i am not certain of licensure/certification in Canada, but you could call around and ask other vets how to check credetials.
if you don't get along with your current vet, you could get a second opionion from another one.

ask to see his license or registration number for the state. Also google in your state and veterinarian to see if there is some bar type association where you can make a compliant about him.

Do a search for your state board of professional licenses. Then you select veterinarian and it is usually done by last name unless you know his number.

Well, he doesn't seem to know much, does he? Go to another vet for your dog and tell him about the other vet and ask what the vet knows about the other one and who to make a report to.

Call the State licensing Board.

Look up the agencies for your state on line.
