Okay, what I mean by "I'm not doing it for the money" is I would do it if people didn't pay if somehow I was rich (that would never happen) And I am getting tired of reading 'why? there are so many homeless dogs' well guess what! I am going to find them homes and most of them will stay with me!

Well why are you doing it then if not for the money as there are so many unwanted unloved dog's that people just chuck out on the street as soon as they become a adult dog and and not a cute little puppy no more.

It's sad and cruel that people treat their dog's like this but it's because dog's are so easy to get hold of and people just keep breeding more and more.

If you really love dog's as you say then think would you like 1 of those cute little puppy's in a year or so living off scrap's in the street cold, miserable and lonely with nothing and nobody 2 love or care for them.

Think hard about what your doing as in the long run your not doing the dog any favours are you?

Pick a breed that is AKC (not JRs.) You know which one you absolutely can not live without when the time comes. I grew up competing Bostons, did Goldens for 28 years and now have Kuvasz (hmm...they get bigger and bigger....)

DO NOT PICK A BREED BECAUSE IT IS POPULAR!!

Read aboout some of the other less known breeds:

http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds

Aussies are a versatile breed - conformation and obedience and agility and tracking. Lots to do with those dogs.

Go here to read about dog competitions.

http://www.akc.org/events/index.cfm?nav_area=events

Chihuahuas take up less space.

Depends on where you are living and the circumstances of your life a that time.

Get involved in the local kennel club. (AKC has a list under "clubs" on its website.)

Take classes with the club on handling and grooming (especially Aussies).

FInd a local show breeder and offer to help in the kennels and at show -for free. . At this point, any breed will do since you need to learn the drill.

Buy only top quality show prospetcs and co-own with your breeder and that means getting the puppy from a member of the National breed club accredited by the AKC.

Be prepared to spend a lot of money showing your dog to prove its quality.

Be prepared to lose money on every single litter that you breed.

This is one of those questions only you can answer. You need to take into consideration the typical characteristics of a specific breed, figure out if the potential temperment is what you want to deal with. Then you need to consider how much space you have for them; is the yard large enough? Can you afford the crates needed? The time and money you'll spend caring for the mother and/or father, for the puppies, what you'll invest in researching the homes the pups may be placed in, etc, etc, etc. There is a lot to breeding, or positively and correctly breeding, animals.

You may consider a similiar but different road. Statistics show 11 million dogs die every year in animal shelters, either because they ran out of "time" (which is anywhere from 72 hours to 14 days) and were put to sleep or because they were ill. In our shelter some of our dogs die because they are brought into the shelter and there just wasn't any room to house them, so they are immediately euthenized.

99% of stray unsterlized females are pregnant and need the time and attention from anyone willing to devote to the care of the mother and pups. Granted they may be mixed breed dogs, and so mixed you're kept guessing as to what specific breed they may be, but you'll see so many dogs come and go it's like Christmas morning with each delivery just wondering what you're going to get.

Out of those three, I think the best breed is Australian Shepherd. Though it looks like you'd like a small breed. how about Miniature Australian Shepherds? All the benefits, but in a smaller package :-). I have attached a link to the Mini Aussie Club in case you want to read about them.

All that said, it would be silly to choose a breed to raise without working with that breed. Meet breeders, trainers, and groomers of each breed and discuss the pros and cons with them. Then, if possible, purchase or adopt a dog of one of those breeds. You may learn that that breed does not fit your lifestyle.

And don't ignore the other breeds. Perhaps you will learn that you love working with corgis, or great danes, or beagles! I am glad I kept my mind open because if I hadn't, I wouldn't have my wonderful dog, a standard poodle!

While your waiting to "grow up" do a ton of research. Read all you can on breeding and especially on your breed of choice. Study the breed standard of perfection and health issues. With this type of knowledge, you will be prepared to be a responsible and caring breeder.

Good luck!

Dont breed!!!
There are enough dogs out there and most of them are in shelters homeless and being put to sleep! Do something good for the dogs in shelters that need help. We dont need more dogs. Help the ones that are already on this earth. We can all make a big difference.

Start taking a handling class or find a breeder of any breed near you that will let you help out in the kennel and at shows. Breeding is more than a cutsie thing you do to get puppies. It takes a LOT of knowledge and time....not to mention the MONEY involved!!!!!!!!!!!! Go to clooege and get a GOOD job, because it costs a fortune to be a breeder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are set on one of those breeds, study the breed standard for each, and go to some shows so you can see what the standards are talking about.

well those are all great breeds of dogs but you need to do alot of research about the care of each dog and the personality most known with that breed and you need to be sure you can care for the dogs properly anyway I'm sure you'll make the right decision based on your personality and the breeds personally i would choose the Australian Shepard but you will be breeding these dogs so you have to know that they are in demand and right now i think the Jack Russel and the Chihuahua are more popular.

Judging from both your questions and your answers on here...I think you need to go mature a little while, and then come back and talk to people. You sound like a 10-year-old.

*Edit* You say you want to breed them just because you love dogs. Loving dogs is great, but why does that mean you have to breed them? Why can't you just enjoy them without adding to the overpopulation? Better yet, why can't you enjoy dogs that aren't registered that come from a shelter, they make just as good of companions as any purebred dog.

hopefully, you are going to love and treat the parent(s) as a pet- other wise, none. Jacks and Aussies are livewires and need alot of attention and a "job" to do or they get into mischief-as most bored dogs do, I have seen so many variations in chihuahuas that i can't even begin to answer that! Also see what the market calls for in your area- Good Luck!

I have an idea. How about if you build and run a pet rescue center instead of breeding dogs just to make $$?? There are PLENTY of dogs out there that stupid people breed -- why purposely make MORE???
