In Texas we had to take a driver's ed class -- it was mostly classroom study followed with time behind the wheel. I don't remember the exacth length of the class, or how many we had to attend, but my classmates who took driver's ed through our school had to go for many, short classes before school (or after school). My class was on weekends, so the class-time was for a longer period of time.

I got my mom and dad and older sister to teach me to drive in the morning at a empty parking lot. I did that for about a year, every other weekend, so about 20ish lessons. Until my sister told me to drive us home, i was real scare pulling out of that parking lot into the street. But i made it and i went and pass my written test and road test in about a week and half times. I think the worst part to the road test is the parallel parking. Practice on that and you be fine.
