My son is turning 12 in November. we are planning a bonfire with about 12 of his friends. Any ideas for games?

When you're 12 years old, you'll pretty much figure out something to do without worrying about games. By then, most kids are content to just hang out with each other. If it's okay with you and other parents, I would suggest a sleepover. As long as it is supervised, you aren't likely to run into any trouble. Kids get a kick out of being able to stay up late, especially all night, and the fact that there will be a bonfire makes that even better.

There is one game that I can think of that is great to play by the fire. It's called "We're Going Camping," or something to that effect. Basically, you and your son should know the rules, but no one else should ;) You go around in a circle and say "I'm bringing the ______." You always choose an item that starts with the same letter as your first name. If the kid chooses a correct item, you say "okay, you can come!" and if not, tell him he can't come camping! This doesn't mean they're out of the game or anything. It's really just a fun puzzle-type game.

In case that's kind of hard to understand, I'll give an example.

Roger: I'm going camping, and I'm bringing ROOSTERS!
(Everyone who's figured it out then says, "Roger can come!")
Missy: I'm bringing the MATCHES!
("Missy can come!")
Jen: I'm bringing a TENT!
("Jen CAN'T come!")

And so on, until everyone figures it out, or quits :)

It really is a lot of fun!
