and how long would it take us to do so? Not trying to stir up insults here, just need some intelligent thoughts please. Not sure if that country will ever be stable.

Hold on folks.....you assume I don't know anything about this, and want the troops to leave. Looking for opinions on why should/should not, and if should how long this may take. Those with military experience have been most helpful.

1. We show the terrorists we are not willing to finish the job.

2. They will use it to recruit other terrorists.

3. They will continue to attack us because they will have learned that at the first bloodshed, we run. They will continue to push the envelope until they get a nuke and NY is blown off the map.

The problem is 2 fold in Iraq

1. Iran is sending fighters in to cause trouble.
2. The terrorists set off bombs near hotels where international journalists stay. They know that it will be all over the tv that night.

This whole problem is part propaganda war and part not being willing to drop the iron fist. We know that terrorists hide in schools, mosques, and hospitals. We must be willing to blow up areas where terrorists hide. We have not.

That country will never be stable because it is a population of muslims.
We could probably pull out within 5 days, if we're willing to leave a few things behind.
I think we should pull out. The argument is that "if we do the country will descend into civil war". So what. They're muslims. Killing is a way of life for them, it always has been and it always will be. I could care less if the Shiites are killing the Sunnis and the Sunnis are killing the Shiites. Let them do more of it. Let them completely slaughter one another. At least if they're busy killing one another they'll be leaving us alone in the meantime. If we pull out now then I think the repurcussion is that Al-Quada will have internal fights between its Sunni and Shiite muslims and they'll be too preoccupied with that internal power struggle for awhile to worry about coming after us. We're not stopping Al-Quada right now anyway.

We cant pull out due to stability in the region, oil or not(theres other countries with oil so thats not why)If we pulled out completly now the middle east would plummet into deeper chaos,Iran would probably overtake them,as would terrorist factions setting up a new regime(since the people would submit so easily, like with Saddam when he lost it and went power mad)Saudi Arabia would panic and all we would end up doing is moving the troops there instead because they would ask us(fear)and the so called reasoning(or at least one of them) for 9/11 was that we had sent our troops on Holy land in Saudi Arabia during the first Iranian war. Thats just one reason of many others.

Although it's Bush's decision, I don't know, based on what he said several months back, if it will happen during his administration. Oh, the talk of politicians! Based on his saying that it wouldn't happen in his administration which is up 1-20-09, it's anyone's guess as to how long the guys will be in Iraq. It sure ly would help Bush's popularity as a president, although he departs office officially 1-20-09. He would really "go out in a blaze of glory" if he could. He's a good president.

When we pulled out the first time it was not considered
as a loss. The people in power are making millions of
dollars through private corperate entities. They seem
that they will stop this soon I hope.Too many Americans
want this war to end.It is a matter that will end if they
decide that they profited enough. They do not care about
our people in the military. When your in...your just a number.

the country will be stable once bush is out of office. We can get our troops out and could have 4 years ago.. but thats much too easy. we have to do everything the hard way. some would rather kill thousands before realising that they lost

leaving a battlefield like Iraq isn't as easy as hoping on a plane and flying away. The process of leaving Iraq will need to be a slow and gradual one, in which we slowly hand power to the Iraqi security forces.

It's a power struggle. If Bush pulled out of Iraq now, it would be an admission of guilt. It would be the same as admitting that he screwed up by invading Iraq in the first place. His plan is to stay in office for like 10 more years. It's a little known fact, but president bush gave himself the power to cancel the elections if there is a state of emergency, or a war crisis going on. What a wanton violation of his constitutional authority!

Because the Supreme Court appointed Bush as the commander in chief, and he refuses to pull the troops out now.

He has already told America that they will be there until he leaves office.
