When we grouted our tile we didn't get the grout off. Our tile is not smooth. Looks like slate so there are pits and grooves and that is where the problem is lying. I can not get it out of the pits and all. Is there maybe a solvent I can buy or a home remedy that I can try? I have used a type of scouring pad, but i am afraid of damaging the grout lines (discoloring) and the tile itself. We also used a solution we mixed in with the grout called Super flexible additive. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Need to get it off so we can enjoy our work and also want to put furniture back.

I actually done the exact same thing you did with slate looking ceramic tile in a shower stall. Do not use muriatic acid or other harsh chemicals because they will eat away the finish. Those tiles have a waterproof finish applied to them. The only way I got the grout off was with an sos pad with a handle and a bucket of water. With water, it will help to loosen up the grout. It takes hours of scrubbing and unless your have a restless work ethic you will not get it out of every single crevace. After you get that done, go over the whole area with a sealer. Good luck.

Oh, man, my heart goes out to you. Our son and his girlfriend did the same thing in a new house they were building. Same type of tile and the house did not have running water yet so they were not changing the water as often as necessary because they only had so much water they hauled in. It was getting late at night and after hours of grouting and having to go to work in the morning. They decided it was cleaned good enough. It wasn't,it had a film across it that when it dried was a nightmare. They tried everything on the market, even taking razors to straighten grout lines on the tile. Each tile was scrubbed individually with SOS pads. Turned into quite a project. No easy way out but it turned out not looking to bad in the end. Live and learn.

There're really no good way other than scrubbing it off. I just installed tile recently. If you run a good wet sponge over it several times as you install it then it turns out great. The final times you run the wet sponge over it take some dry towels over it to pick up the last bit of grout. I used granite also and mine turned out great.
