The jewish communities are returning to Israel, and the Israeli people have only been back in their land for the last 50 years or so. You need to read much more on prophecy and see that things are turning that way. For christians it has nothing to do with fear of Jesus' return. It means to turn our eyes towards Him and do His will even more than we would have because peopel need to get saved. Revelation also talks about the state of the church, what ruins it it will be in. Dont you agree that the churches are in even more ruin than they were? You would think they would get better, but no. This is the way of humanity. to ruin everything because of their selfish ways.

Most 'prophecies' are self-fulfilling propechies. You can make the Bible mean whatever you want it to. I know several people who really think we are living in the last days....kinda scary when you think about that.
People have been waiting for Jesus to come back now for almost 2,000 years, and since the beginning, most people thought that he would come back in their own lifetime.
I don't know why people believe such things, maybe it helps them explain a world that they don't really understand. Either way, I wouldn't worry about the end times, I would just worry about today.
