How about the local animal shelter

2006-10-24 13:20:29 · answer #1 · answered by suziQ 3 · 1 2

As you probably well know there is no such thing as a "free" kitten. People who want them for nothing are usually very poor owners - the kittens won't be spayed/neutered, they will not get a vet exam and necessary kitten shots. I just adopted two shelter kittens from my home. I ask for a $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit (that's the cost of the procedures at the local humane society). When she mails me the papers that that has been done I will give her $100 back. People who will put that money up front are serious about owning cats. Another clincher for me was that the woman said she had just lost her fifteen year old cat. I know she will stick with the kittens for their lifetime and take good care of them. They will live entirely indoors too and that's another great plus.

Drive around the City Park and River area, usually people drop them there. Here at the river where people fish there are 2 cats, I guess they have grown up there as I have seen them from a Kitten, if, they the same. Some people put a little cat food out for them and they hang back from the fishermen and get a fish thrown to them. But, they wild and not come close to people. They are pretty cats and actually well fed.

Free kittens cost more in the long run than adopting one who has all its medical already done.. and been dewormed and vetted.. often even spayed or neutered too..

Adopt one from your local SPCA or humane society - they have great selection, good guarantees (better than pet store) AND becuase they are NON-PROFIT they charge you less for adoption than you would pay if you had to do it all on your own

neglecting medial care in a pet is a criminal action so taking a free one and neglecting medical needs is a crime.. as free kittens dont come with health checks you could take one with serious/costly health issues that might not be apparent at the time (eg. heart murmor)

look in the newspaper under free or thrifty ads, a local shelter, neighbors, friends with cats. Free kittens are everywhere, just keep looking and asking around.

Check out your local shelter, especially the ones that euthinize. Then you can trully know you saved it's life and it will be greatful! Plus cats from shelters are often already fixed, vaccinated, dewormed and vet checked(which makes the small adoption fee cheeper then a free kitten after you vaccinate, deworm and fix).

I heard in the early part of this century, cats were everywhere.

That's because cats can have litter after litter, over and over.

You should be able to find a cat in a newspaper ad!!! Today,

people keep them indoors and neuter them more, so that

cut down the population somewhat!

You've probably heard this a million times already but...

1) Check your local newspaper ads
2) Visit a local adoption shelter
3) If there's a Petco near you, they usually hold adoption events; the link's below

Hi there...consider also searching online Pittsburgh Craigslist http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/pet/ . People post there frequently daily every minute so be sure to check often.
