A fifth is not a liter...it is 3/4 of a liter (750ml=5th, 1000ml=liter)...

a fifth is what is now known as a .750ml bottle. However, a liter is more. They sell liters in liquor stores, but theyre mainly sold to bars and restaurants because the inventory/pour cost is easier to calculate.

A fifth used to be 1/5 of a gallon. Then somebody (?) or governing body decided that liquor should be sold in metric quantities.... so now a "fifth" is actually a liter.
